Soapy Zymol chamois?

Can anyone tell me why the Zymol chamois is pre-filled with detergent? When I went to dry the car with it I got streaks of soap suds across the paint instead of it clear dry paint. 10 minutes of rinishing later the chamois is still pumping out soap suds when wet.

Am I missing something? I thought the chamois was to dry an already washed car, not try and wash it all over again. Can anyone tell me does the soap suds stop after a while or should I be doing something else?

Appreciate any advice from the knowledgeable folk!

Why waste money on Zymol products when you can go to B&Q and get yourself a decent MF cloth for £4.99 which is perfect for washing or drying.

Any Zymol product = man happy to part with money when better cheaper alternatives exist

You have to rinse it out really thoroughly first Loon. Took a couple of buckets worth of water and a good squidging under the tap before I was happy with my chami. I think the suds are a perhaps by-product of it's manufacturing...?

Shed - following that logic we should all be driving Fiat Puntos Oh ok yes they are expensive but can't say I'm too fussed about spending £4 more than I should have on a chamois when according to other threads my car is depreciating at £1k a month !!! Bother.

I don't find micro fibres any good for drying. Chamois all the way!

my zymol chamois did exactly the same. stops after a few rinses, dont worry about it.
as for the sarky comments about zymol, trust your own impressions. my own is that the zymol chamois is by far and away the best one Ive ever used and I'm happy to pay for it. if others wish to crow about saving money having made their own chamois out of sellotape and a squirrel carcass they found by the side of the road then good luck to 'em. we all get our kicks in different ways.

I read somewhere that you are supposed to use 100% cotton towels, probably the Swissol site, and I have tried it. Works an absolute treat, much better than a chamois, it doesn't squeak for paint, if that makes any sense. Seems to dry it off with out being abrasive.

I use two, one for getting most water off, and then a dry one for finishing. The dry one lasts the whole car.

I didn't get expensive ones from Swissol, but the nice cheap ones from Tesco 25p each

I have 3 or 4 that I use each time. Threw away my sponge too.

I've got a Lapis Blue 996 and it shows every streak and smear if not done right, so I tried the Flash car wash thingy.

It cannot recommend it enough, it really works well.

The secret is to use the auto dry spray as though you were spray painting the car and then go for a coffee. It still needs a few little touch ups with a chamois but we are talking 2-3 minutes rather than 20 minutes.

Hey Miracle,

Oh the shame - I haven't had a chance to reapply so it is just the one coat for now. Even with that the water just slides straight off in the most amazing beading I have ever seen in 20 years of polishing cars. I'm moving to a new apartment in a few weeks with a wicked garage (these things are important to us central London folk) so will be doing the re-coat process from scratch again. Quite looking forward to it actually (dammit - the hot chick in apartment 4 was right!)

Thanks for the advice everyone - I'll be rinising like a madman for a while. The quality of the Zymol chamois seems miles ahead of the Autogym one I use on my motorbike.
