996 cab vs 997 cab S

I have a 4 year old 996 cab (2001 facelift) which I am very happy with (30.000 miles). However The OPC has offered me 38.500 if I swap it for a 997 S Cab. Has anyone here made the change and does it make sense to fork out 35.000 - 40.000 pounds to drive the newest model?.

£38.5k sounds far too cheap for a facelift Cab. A friend recently bought a 99 Cab with 55k miles for £37k. He looked for ages and was happy that he had got a good deal.

If your OPC wants to entice you into the 997, I think he needs to do a bit more work.

The 38.500 was their opening bid and now the salesperson is chasing me for a firm commitment. In honesty I think that the real difference is 30.000 to swap for a well equipped 997 S cab ex-demonstrator with 2000 miles on the clock. It is worth it or is the difference between the 996 and 997 too marginal.

In my opinion, it is too marginal a change to warrant the £30+K to change.

Sure the 997 is great, no question about it. But it is hard for me to see that it is 30k better than what you have got.

I had a standard Carrera 2 (03 facelift) which was due to be changed for a 997 S circa £71k in May this year... I was looking at a bid of £43k for mine in January from an OPC leaving me without a car until May and having to find £28k to change, albeit for a better car... no doubt about it.

So what I did is Swap the 996 C2 for a Almost new M3 CSL (had 1600 miles) used it for 6 months, than swapped that and £25k for a almost unused (2300 miles) 996 TT X50.

Now that was a quantum leap over the 996 C2... and I could see where my money had gone.

I still love the 997 S, but if you are already in a nice place... it is a heap of cash to change... think of it as keeping your car and buying a late used Boxster S as well (not that you want to do that)

If you like your car keep it till may next year by then 997's will be cheaper and your car will still be worth the 38k to a private buyer.Coupe is by far the better drive in terms of noise levels,but if you like the wind in your hair then cab is the only way to go,also the cab always keeps its value better long term,as long as you sell it may-july.

As mentioned on a similar post, I am taking delivery of the AMV8 shortly and the dealer is not giving me a great price for my 997 C2S Cab so if you do fancy one then you could have mine for less than any of the others on the market...!
