...hear from people who have 996's and haven't had any RMS troubles.

I literally just bought the thing (havent even picked it up officially yet) and all i hear is negativity about the cars.

come on people, cheer me up! tell me some good stuff. :type:

Just remember what statistics are...

You may want to hear from people who havent suffered from engine failure aswell

Saying all this I had a 99 996 C4 that had covered 33k miles (or so) without engine failure or rms seal leaks.

i've come from the TVR's... in fact i still have one for a few weeks until my 996 is ready. i never had any probelms more than a fuse going. i must say im slightly concerned and disappointed that all i read is so negative. owning my (3) tvr has been a mechanical pleasure. practically its been a bit of a pain, i went to porsche because i didnt want the problems of the tvr speed 6 in the tuscan mk1... was i wrong i wonder.

I still miss my starmist blue Chim, mainly for the exhaust note. Good as gold that car was.

Same old adage applies, you only hear people moaning when things go wrong.

If the engine doesn't go pop why are people going to post about RMS and cracked or slipped liners??

AFAIK posts about that are relatively few and far between but possibly because people round these parts mostly own 993s

if i could afford to and had the storage space, i'd keep it... starmist and doeskin hide in my case. one day i'll have my 3 car garage. minimum.

it would appear that my only option for the porsche is to buy the warranty.

that said my intention was not to cover old ground here. i want to hear why people like them, the fun they have, the places they go in them...

the other side of the coin!

I'm new to porsche ownership but surely all part of owning an amazing car is a slightly higher risk of things going wrong. All supercars are going to have a small percentage risk of having mechanical problems... RMS has affected some unfortunate people but the vast majority of owners (outside of these forums EVERY owner i know) have never had a single set back. Buy the car, get a warranty for peace of mind then go enjoy yourself!

I was just taking in general and my coments were no way aimed at yourself. As a new guy here you should ask the questions that concern you most.Just buy the warranty, anyway welcome and hope you enjoy what looks like a very nice car, looks a bit pricey though, has it got alot of extra kit?

you see, that's what i want, a 2 deep, 2 wide garage with a large open-plan flat above, and a 2 wide driveway for access.
