New Exhaust Needed...944 Turbo Cab

Just bought the car and the only thing outstanding is a new exhaust.
The exhaust was totally corroded (the rest of the car is mint, the specialist confirmed that!) and fell off. Just the tailpipe mind you (the very last thinest bit).
The specialist said it was £990 for a porsche box, £300 for another make.
All seems pretty steep. I need to call kwikfit, but other than that, any other suggestions?
Also, I am so paranoid about every little bump! I have not completely gotten used to how low the car is. Went over a speedbump and bottomed the rear of the car (somewhere between the rear wheels it felt like...). Don't know if its my imagination but the now I feel like the gearbox feels less (for want of a better word) "tight"?
Any suggestions? Basically, I think someone telling me not to worry would hit the spot, and they say how strong these cars are!

You'll soon learn that Porsche ownership doesn't come cheap ! I think that £300 for a rear section is pretty reasonable and personally, I wouldn't think about putting a Kwik Fit exhaust on my car......
As for the ride height, it really should be fine, as you say they're pretty strong cars. You'd have to hot a speed hump pretty damn hard to damage anything.

rear boxes are very steep. I posted a while back in shock when I found that a new porsche approved box for my 968 would be £1150+VAT + fitting. Some wiser heads on PH suggested I buy a sports box and make it sound like a proper sports car, which I did, for £395 from Essential Styling Systems. Its a stainless steel Janspeed unit and sounds great. I'd advise against Kwikfit too, but there are plenty of aftermarket sports exhaust suppliers around who will sort you for under £500. my unit has a 20 year guarantee so once fitted, forget and enjoy.
Unless your car has been specifially lowered, the ride height should be perfectly ok for general use. perhaps you went over the speedbump a bit quick? I doubt if you could do any serious damage at normal speeds. they are very very very well built and robust cars in general

How much do you think it should cost in labour? My girlfriend has a guy who does cheap work. Should I intrust the attachment of the exhaust once it arrives to him or should it ONLY be with someone who has plenty of experience with 944 exhauts?

If you want to have a look at mine before you invest your hard earned money, I'm more than happy to show you but yes, it sounds great ! I'm in West London....
I tried to put mine on myself but couldn't get the car high enough, so popped it round to my local exhaust centre and they had it fitted in 20 mins. It's a pretty simple job to uncouple the old rear section and bolt the new one on. The ESS system comes with all the bits and bobs that you need to fit it......

Just replaced the rear section on my 89 Turbo, with a SS box bought from PH that was a Milltek prototype. While it doesnt turn a 4 cylinder into a flat six, it does add a lovely whoomfle at 2.5k, and a scream over 3.5K
I did it myself( Proud beam), and it only took three hours, lots of skinned knuckles and a fortune into the swear box...

I think I'll end up just getting the box I think... The system might be too much money at the moment.

I have a polished stainless steel rear box made by Dansk that I bought from Bert at www.berlyn-services.co.uk for £160. It's a direct replacement but half the weight, no louder, no extra performance, same size tailpiece and was very easy to fit. Two bolts at the tailpipe and three bolts at the flange on the front section. Soak them all in WD40 for a few days and get on your back

Here's a French 944 turbo with a 3" Lindsey Racing exhaust if you find the stock one too quiet.

The guy who owns that car also has a 944 turbo cup, previously had an S2 and a basic 944L and from his website he seems to be very knowledgeable and passionate about his 944's. I don't know him or his cars though so I can't make a judgement but I would be surprised if someone who is that much into his 944's would put a crap exhaust on.
If you can read french then you can go over his website and see to what extent he has rebuilt and modified the 944 turbo, which to me looks like he has done some very high quality work on it.
