Stirlings Specialist Cars
Discussion
Hi All
Been lurking for a few days and this is my first post. Apologies for inadvertently breaking any written/unwritten rules.
I'm looking for a late 90s/early 2000 911 996, either C2 or C4. Has anyone used or have any information about Stirlings Specialist Cars down in Cornwall? I see they're advertising a few 911s on the classifieds section, and they come with an OPC warranty. What with RMS and other problems I'm convinced that getting a warranty is essential, and not having to do it myself is very attractive.
Stirlings prices seem very competitive given the low mileage on their cars.

Only problem is 'no naming/shaming' so if anyone has bad experiences with Stirling they will have to email you directly. All they can post is a 'You Have Mail' post on the forum.
Remember that fishing for opinions about a dealer or specialist may not be overly useful; I have seen places I'd never use thoroughly recommended here with a groundswell of public opinion, and I've also seen some pretty exaggerated complaints that shouldn't be taken too seriously about other places I know are pretty good. Remember that no name and shame means it's mainly good comments and back slapping all round
Use any comments as a barometer and as unverified recommendations and you'll be fine. Treat them as gospel and you could get into more trouble than just walking through the door with an open mind.

Without wishing to become the font of all wisdom like one uxbridge based specialist
One of my phrases of advice is
" Its not so much the car you buy today, but its the car you have in 3 years time that you have to sell that determines your depreciation"
What I'm trying to get at is
You buy a 60,000 mile car today whats it going to be worth in 3 years time with 90,000 on it?
you pay more for a 20,000 mile car but when you sell that in 3 years time with say 48,000 miles its going to be worth more and someone is going to want it i think the first question someone asks when you sell a car is whats the mileage
and thats the difference in my humble opinion between a car that will sell privatley for mor than what your offered in part exchange
My theory my opinion, and i allways advertise the mileage
where as one specialist wont even tell you the mileage untill you get there
but then i service my cars and have a 111 Point Porsche approved used car inspection done before you see it

You DO know that that car is Tiptronic i assume ?
G.
Yeah, not overly bothered one way or the other on that front. I promised myself the last time I had a car that the next one would be an auto/semi-auto. Too much time slowly plodding through central London traffic, although I'll be doing less of that this time around.
There don't seem to be any particular horror stories about Tiptronic from what I've read, just personal preference yes?

Have heard no negatives about relaibility etc, just wanted to make sure you were aware, as it did not say it in the details as far as i could see (thought that was a bit sly)
Looks like a nice motor though, with the facelift cars wheels.

Mark at Stirlings is a really nice guy, worth giving him a call and he can source a car for you, he will then put it thru a 111 point Porsche check and give it a 12 month OPC warranty, he also Zymols all his car. He aint cheap but OPC's only sell new(ish) cars nowadays so Mark is your next best thing.
again only my humble opinion.

Ace-parts,very much in agreement with your post and it seems you are not persuaded by the tripe lots car dealers would have you believe about buying on condition and not mileage. For me the two go hand in hand for the private buyer if you want any chance of a decent part-ex or a good and speedy private sale.

No, I think you missed my point, I was trying to ask the question, why does a prestige car dealer need to make sarcastic comments about certain other dealers?
He should spend his time buffing up his stock, not his ego.
If you read the rest of the posts on 911 UK
i wasn't trying to "Buff my ego"
infact the opposite
The phrase used was not tonque in cheek,
I genuinely feel that people tend to forget when buying a car what its going to be worth in 3/4 years time,
I will admit that you could buy a s or T plate car for the price of my R reg,
But in my defence, I'm the only Porsche specialist that i know off that has his cars 111 Point inspected by a Porsche main dealer, services the cars if they are due a service in the next 4 months by a Porsche main dealer and gives a 12 month porsche main dealer warranty.
I think Porsche tend to sell in price bands and sometimes the no plate doesnt come into it
would you rather have an r reg car done 19, or a t plate car done 29,000 or 40,000 miles
in 3 years time which will be worth more a 48,000 mile car or a 58,000 mile car
MY point that i' obviously portrayed wrongly was that it was HUMBLE Opinion and i was not trying to become " must listen to me i'm the one to listen to"
I try hard to present my cars to the highest standard i can both cosmetically and mechanically, the porsche warrannty is probably the best on the market, and i try only to buy low mileage cars thats my humble philosophy, it works for me, I spend a fortune at Porsche main dealers servicing my cars, but i can sleep at nights knowing i've done the best i can to look after my customers and their cars, and from the feedback i get from my customers they seem happy with it
No doubt other posts will make their own comments, but this is a democracy and you are entitled to do so,

Depends where a car is going in 3 years time or when the person has finished with it........if he tries to p/ex into Audi/BMW/Jag dealer etc they will only be interested in the age and mileage and what the glasses guide or cap guide says........where as if it is been sold p/ex'd into a specialist he will be far more interested in the mileage and the fact its got an extended Porsche warranty etc.........fact is proper preparation to a very high standard costs money.......thus a higher price has to be charged....as a customer you cant have your cake and eat it (although most think they can, denying us honest dealers a small crust or even a few crumbs

ouch
cause it's an internet forum and he is expressing his professional opinion as another car dealer !
from his post, he was listing what a quality operation he has for seling 911's, (note - I have no affiliate with his operation) pity he is only located at the that end of England... and from what I have read, no one has ever had a said a negative word about his operations...
nothing wrong with either, they are both legendary 911 car dealers.... but each to their own
I can speak from experience about stirlings...i have bought 2 vehicles from mark and my father one also. The last one i bought off mark was sourced to my request and he found nice one, low miles nice condition and a fair price. Marks cars in my experience are beautifally prepared and totally genuine. I dont work in the trade etc but just passing on that i would buy another car (porsche or otherwise) from mark in a heartbeat. He is an enthusiast and a top bloke.
cheers
