gt3 mk1 on rolling road yesterday..
Discussion
had car on rolling road... figures were 345 bhp and 270 lbs torque.... are theses good figures taking that i had 95 octane petrol in car... also the air intake is at the rear of car with the roads fan at the front...
is it true that i heard that the best gt3 mk1 on a rolling road was about 355 bhp..AND THAT THE CARS WERE NEVER 360BHP AS PORSCHE STATE....???????

Doesn't it recommend 98 ron fuel? That will have cost you a bid as it retarded the ignition.
To be honest on a rolling road +- 15bhp is neither here nor there as they simply aren't that accurate. It would have had to estimate to work out power at the flywheel anyway. Presumably it was using coast down losses to do this, or was it just a guess by the operator?
I am led to believe that under TUV regs, manufacturers have a 5% tolerance band on engine outputs to pass and make their way into a customer car.
Therefore if the GT3 is rated at 381bhp any engines produced with 362-400 bhp get a pass....I wouldn't be suprised when an engine is built, if it showed a healthy output it may well have been put aside destined to go in an RS rather than regular GT3

I was at the Same dyno day as Zanzibar in his MK1
The 2x MKII's were completely standard 395 and 397BHP
one of them was Kurgen (GT3 Rob's), obviously they were happy with those figures.
My car only dynoed at 400bhp that day (it has Manthey K410), but it had a faulty air sensor, so i had it re-done 2x weeks later, after having it replaced, and it hit 417bhp.
95 ron will certainly make a significant difference to the figures, the r/road we use is the one that is now being used by Evo magazine, (WRC Technologies Silverstone)for when they do write ups of the cars, to check against manufacturers claims.
They had a Maserati in the other week which was around 30+ bhp down on its claimed figure, turns out it was running 95 Ron, and when re-tested with 98 Ron, it was only down 1-2bhp

Was'nt on our Rolling Road. Most of you guys know our set up with specific 22000 cu ft/min Porsche fan over engine bay + another 22000 blowing on rads + 60000 pulling air over car/intercoolers etc.
The car is in Dublin I think. 98 is scarce in Ireland and without doubt the ECU has safeguarded the engine due to fuel quality. As for Mk1's mine only made 348 BHP but it got mollycuddled. Nigel and a few others Mk1's all ran 360 or over at previous Dyno Days and ref the 5% tolerance on TUV, I think it is + only no - allowed ?
Cheers

Some of the mags claimed the RS had a blueprinted engine, but dunno how true that is. Its more likely that all mk2s + RSs tend to make close to 400 bhp on decent fuel.
I believe it was cherry-picked engines for the RS - basically the ones coming off the line with higher output and better torque curve got selected.

What are the differences between the GT3 mkII and the RS's motors? Aside from the ram air spoiler? Does the RS have any trick internals?
I spoke to a guy from Parr's recently who are advertising RAM Air Spoliers on their website suitable for both MK1 and MK11 models. The chap said that having a RA Spoiler could be worth an extra 15BHP. Is this genuine or is it a gimmicky add on that just a waste of money. I think the cost worth c£400.

Are these figures you are quoting at the axle or at the flywheel? I've heard on 355's showing less than 300bhp at the axle, so your figures with the GT3's are very good.
At the flywheel.

How do they calculate the bhp at the flywheeel without taking the engine out? Transmission loses must vary a lot between different cars. Are the figures sort of a guesstimate?
When I went to visit the Stuttgart Factory, the engine chap was telling me that all Porsche motors when tested all meet or at least exceed the figures claimed. Most he said are slightly over what we state... but if more than 5% over we reject it. "That is how we like to do it he said"
