steamy windows/ mist the point/ cant see anything

my windscreen demister is driving me nuts (i used to have a steering wheel attached to 'em to do it, but had to hock it to buy miss piggy). how do i keep my screen demisted at all times without having to have either the air con running flat out permanently, or recreating fecking thermo nuclear blast furnace conditions in the cabin?

my head tells me that to keep the condensation away the inside screen temp needs to match the outside screen temp, but it just doesn't seem to be working like that. i either have to have the air con on max and the temp low, or the air con on and the temp on Molten Magma. please, don't make me read the manual.

the only thing that seems to work for longer than about ten seconds is having either of the above settings on, and either deep freeze myself (three of my toes broke off this morning after last nights trip to the shops) or have the window open a crack whilst i recreate near Sahara like levels or aridity, in which case my eyes dry out so much it hurts to blink.

someone please help me, having to constantly fuck about with the settings whilst I'm driving is not much fun.

or, is there a product like rainX that works on the inside of the screen that eliminates fogging?

[small]and whilst were on the subject, whats with the random press it once, moves up one gradient, press it again blowers go mental feature? and how do i stop it turning on the fecking air con and demisters every time i turn on the engine?

ooo, and how do i stop the stereo turning itself off if i don't replace the CD I'm changing within i micro second?

I'm guessing I'm now discovering Porsche 'quirks', huh? [/small]

have you checked you haven't got damp in the car (like under-carpets)?
FWIW I've never had any problem with steaming up even with wife & kid in the car jabbering away (and wife is paranoidly anti-A/C)

Clean the windscreen. Something like Windolene will do it, but if there's no dirt, then it mists up a lot less. Microfibre cloths help.

at this point someone will say that zymol cloths work best, then someone else will get in high dudgeon, claiming honours for swissol/maguiars/etc etc multimicrofibre-carnuba-internal-screen-wipe, then some smart arse will say he gets much better results wiping with used loo paper (and saves a pretty penny too) and......welcome once again to PH porsche forum.

I did think of suggesting you just hold your breath for short journeys, but that would be needlessly facetious and unhelpful, particularly as, on your recommendation, I am covered in vaseline to stop me getting wet from my leaky roof

Rain-x do a product called Rain-X Anti-fog. You should be able to get it at Halfords or on eBay...

That's the stuff (works on bathroom mirrors too)...

I'd be more concerned why you keep misting up though ... perhaps others can say if they suffer the same problem (me for one : No)

I got a funny rubberised glass cleaning cloth from one of the zymol type vendors along with their window cleaning spray. Works a treat.

Downside with the domestic glass cleaners is that they tend to contain vinegar which can perish the window seals.

For cleaning glass you cant beat a mild vinegar and water solution, polished off with old newspaper.

My eighty year old aunt taught me this, and she couldn't possibly be wrong
