Want a 993 Turbo 'S' !!
Discussion
I saw the black one advertised for 65k,,,,there is an arena red one knocking around with slightly lower mileage for 60k.......I believe there are 31 rhd UK cars,,,they were 130k pounds when new!!!!!
I looked into getting one of these 18 months ago,,,but in the end I was put off by the weight....the spec is fantastic,,,,if you look at the detail...carbon turbos S strut brace,,,leather headlining even the air vents and dashboard knobs are leather covered, to name but a few ...they are too good to strip down and lose some of that weight.
Engine ia basically x50 spec.......I know of 2 cars that have been quite a way down on power,,,,,so I would suggest a rolling road to see if they are close to specified power...otherwise it could be a 10grand overhaul!
Running costs should not be any worse than a regular 993tt......The S came with yellow calipers,,,,but always steel discs,,,this is pre pccb...which cannot be a bad thing.....I have seen these cars go through at 55k pounds...so worth a bid...particularly as there are quite a few 996TT available in the 50 grands now.
Don't see any real investment potential just yet,,,but buy well and it shouldn't lose much money.
Interesting to consider these were about the same money as a 993 GT2 when new......the TT S has more than halved in value, where as a low miles rhd Gt2 is still worth 130k...if you can find one!

Thanks for that CS.
Certainly would not want to strip down for weight etc, as it is just to 'poodle about in, as the GT3 will cover the track work.
If i bought one for £60k now, with a crystal ball, what what you see value at this time next year ???
G.
Glenn, when I was looking 18 months ago they were 55-65k...depending on mileage.....I think Henry sold a black one just over a year ago for 53-55 grand....
I would think you would still be looking at around 55k......Not a lot of downside, but the only consideration is the huge number of 996TT coming on to the market, especially in the next year with the 997TT due.
No disrespect meant, but over the next year the 993TT S will certainly depreciate less than your TT cab...You could almost justify buying it!..
I would go in with a cheeky bid though,,,once a specialist has made sure it is a good un.

I sold mine a few weeks ago (DOH!)......
WHY?????
Glen
TTS suspension is quite extreme, almost as hard as an RS, also at 1560kg its a bit of a lardy, but it has to be king of the traffic light grandprix, performance to 150mph (fifth gear) is awesome, sixth is a bit of an overdrive. Engine management on mine would trip the engine fault system for the slightest misfire (quite often on overrun)
Glenn....standard TT is 408bhp....they use k16 turbos
there was an early X50 pack which had a different ecu and gave 430 horse......the X50 changed in '97 to incorporate K24 bigger turbos which gave 450 bhp.
The 993 TT/s were all '98 model year cars...UK cars are R reg...there are some earlier cars in the rest of the world etc...
Main differences......exterior....rear wing side vents, front and rear Turbos S spoilers, double exhaust tips...as in looks like 4 out back...standard 993TT braking system (steel) calipers painted yellow, wheels are hollow spoke turbo...but finished in satin silver rather than normal shiny silver.suspension is sports lowered,,,but doesn't help handling much due to weight!
interior....carbon dash, door trims,,,,more leather than you can imagine,,,roof etc, ...hard back sports seats painted body colour, turbos S sill plates and carbon strut brace...with Turbo S on it (unique).
Basically it was the full individual options list on a car...you couldn't fit anything else on!
It shouldn't be difficult to prove if it is a real turbo S as it would not be economical to make a standard car into one.

Hang about, only last month you said you didn't like turbo cars and were only interested in a NA version!
True, i said exactly that.....
But as sick as this sounds, i want one for how they look, more than how they go !!
Sad but true, the fact that they're pretty quick is just a bonus.
I would settle for a C4/2 S with the Turbo S body kit, but they are few and far bewtween also.

so really you want this:

Then save yourself some cash and go for this:-
www.gmundcars.com/cars/449/993c4s38.html
While not anywhere near as quick (but still rapid with that 3.8 upgrade), the exterior looks the same as the 993TS save the calipers. But I'm not sure whether that really is a Turbos S spoiler as described or the Aerokit?
It will sound fabulous too.
My recently acquired C4S has the Aerokit II and looks similar. I realised after research and advice from folks here that the C2S/C4S Aerokit cars give you most of the looks and sound better. Of course, they're not turbos with all that goes with it but you can't have everything! They also save you some considerable cash, are just as good depreciation-wise and additionally lessen the chance of losing ones license which are all bonuses...;-) Something to think about and weren't you lusting after a C2S only a few weeks ago?!

Buy a turbo, upgrade the suspension for £2K (S will probably need new suspension anyway), upgrade the engine if you feel you need the extra 40bhp (Carnewal do the kit for 5,500 euros which includes turbos, cooler etc) and you can save youself 15-20K and get some choice in the bargain.
