making the same leap when I find the right car (a black TT)
I also considered a 4S but understood the pros and cons - it is a slower and more expensive C2. But for me the looks are worth the cash as the fat arse turbo'd wheel car looks 10x better to me. Also the added traction of the 4wd would be useful in our wet country and the performance loss is not one I would feel much

I was to buy a 996 non GT3 or Turbo, the fat arse is the absolute business, I also like the wider front on my 87 supersport.
I can't imagine that you would notice the performance difference to be honest, they are all pretty stonking.
Don't know what different the 4wd makes, but I wouldn't buy it for that, the roads really aren't that bad.

Go straight for the Gt3 or turbo,thats what i should have done as you might be a bit dissapointed with the power the C2 puts out.Lots of guys here dis the boxster and have'nt got a clue how fast they really are as they have never bothered to drive one.
My second S the 260bhp model had headers,decat pipes, uprated backbox,and Ecu upgrade and although i never put it on a rolling road,it felt just as quick as my C2.Even my standard 252 bhp model did'nt feel that far behind.So my 2 pence worth is,go up to at least 360bhp if you really want to see where your extra cash is going

I went the other way ! (from 996 to Boxster S). Considering going back again, though ...
I love the looks of the C4S, and the standard spec's better than the C2, but there are two drawbacks compared with the Boxster in my opinion.
Firstly, I personally prefer the handling feel of the C2 (and Boxster) over the C4. So defo test drive both two and four wheel drive versions as soon as you can...
Secondly (and less importantly
) the front boot will be smaller than the Boxster's because of the 4WD gubbins.

4S is pretty, but the handling and grip on any 996 are so fabulous that I wouldn't be overly concerned about having 4wd. People seem to assume that on a 996, that is you aren't Michael Schumacher you need 4wd in British weather. Its simply not true - how many other cars are 4wd?
Dan, what do ya thing of the wet grip of the RS..?
Was out today, very wet conditions, was starting to push.. thought grip was amazing in wet.. back and front.

Its absolutely stunning. Had it out at Bedford when it started tipping it down.
Not sure how good it will be on standing water, but so far I really like the corsa systems as they seem to strike a nice balance between grip and clearing water.
I still can't get over how early you can get on the throttle out of a corner in the 911. As I get braver it continues to surprise me!
