997s engine failure!

Hi guys.

Friend of mine has just had the engine 'let go' in his 997s. Porsche has said its unrepairable and a new engine will come from Germany.
He asked me whether having a new engine would affect value come resale time. I said I'd chuck it up on one of the Porsche forums. What do you think?

To be honest with you it should'nt,but in the real world most people will be put off by that as there will be no shortage of 997's that are factory fresh.My advice is unless you have to dont tell anyone(as if)

I think Porsche engine failure is common enough for a replacement not to hurt it's value too much. Having said that it's something for a potential buyer to haggle over.

Out of interest, do we know cause of failure?

Is it possible to get the engine number changed in the log book details? If so, who would know there's been a change - though I suppose a record is kept by Porsche as it will have been replaced under warranty.

value in what context - if private sale I'd have thought so - I drive a 997C2S - if the same thing happened I'd be looking at OPC network and trade in on another 997 varient after say another 12 months as the best way to minimise the hit - go outside OPC and I'm thinking there would be an adverse impact on trade value however illogical that may be

I had the engine replaced in my boxster - these days the OPC replace it like any spare part - they don't have the skills and authority to strip the engines so just replace them.

Didn't make a difference to re-sale, I was very honest and fessed up - most buyers actually liked the fact it had a nice new engine - somewhat made the mileage irrelevant - no negative comments at all. Sold the car fairly easily, and the OPC gave the same shitty trade-in price regardless of the engine change or not - either way I would have needed a family sized jar of vaseline.

The registered keeper can certainly apply for a changed engine number in the log book. Porsche may also supply an engine with no serial number so that the OPC can stamp it or they may provide an engine with the same number as before.

If there is a new engine delievered under warranty it will have the same engine number on it as the previous one according to many porsche reading materials.

Would it be possible to get a letter from Porsche confirming there would be no decrease in value come p/ex time back to an OPC? Would be worth a try?
