Heater fans on 993 RS bust.....help please!!
Discussion
Hi fellas, I would be grateful for your help regarding the interior's heater/demister fans on my 993 RS.
Every time I turn them on, the fuse blows. So each time I get out of the car, put a new fuse in, turn the fans on again, the fans immediately stop working due to the fuse going.
I went to the OPC (a miserable experience) and they said that the fan motor was seized and I needed a new one. To replace the motors, they said they would need to take the fuel tank out.......and the job would cost 850 quid! :yikes:
Is this true? Or is the job simpler than that? What would you guys do?

Johnny, it's really easy to get to the filters so i would imagine it's not too hard to have a go at the motor and try and turn it (see if it feels stiff).
Open the bonnet and remove the plastic panel that runs across below the windscreen - the two housings underneath it at either end are held on by screws with thumb size heads - easy to turn them with your fingers and pull the housings. Then you'll see the two filters, pop them out, and there's the fans. Try turning them.
This lot won't take you more than 15 minutes tops.
If you do have to replace a fan motor i suspect the fuel tank will need to come out...
Do you still have my number? Call me if you get stuck.

Johnny, do a search on rennlist.,, I am sure I have read about this before....
What are you doing with your car at an OPC???? I wouldn't let them anywhere near an RS
Seriously, have a word with a decent specialist, if you have to get a new fan motor, I would certainly check out the Porsche parts breakers,it's not as if it's an RS specific part.
maybe you could take them out to make up for the extra weight of those airjacks? Good luck mate!

Thanks fellas, all very useful, cheers all.
I will have to get an opinion from my local specialist.
Paul...The car went to the OPC because I needed a few emergency sundries that needed doing before a track day in a week. Don't worry.....cheap and easy work....I wouldn't get them to do anything big!

RMA, Donington, Thursday 27 October.....still spaces I believe....you fancy it? Vic's going. Sorry......I was trying to sell you the idea!
Had E-mail this week about it, very tempted, if the weather looks half decent and the gritters stay in bed then I could well be there
I'll ask Colin if he wants to bring the Meister Monster out, he did say he fancied playing if we were out again

will hang my underpants on my own rear wing this time, promise!
Just had a vision of a Black RS going down Craner with your scrundies hanging off the back like a dragsters chute.....scary (use Vic's and you wont get moving)
My pants are pretty big. Would make a good 'chute.
