Bloody hellfire. The VMAX arms race continues. Another VMAXer joins the Porsche darkside.
Great cars but with the trade/retail spread, definitely one to buy and keep rather than buy with a view of punting it on after a few months of ownership. Make sure you seriously drill the seller on price!

Been looking at one myself.... spent a long time talking to the guy at Porsche GB who looks after my GT2 about them, problems, potential issues...
The only real weak point is the clutch, but only if you abuse it.... however, abusing the clutch means anyone driving the car who is not used to it and ANY riding of the clutch. If it's only you and you are a good heal toe man then you should get 20+ K miles out of the clutch no problems.
The only other thing they have found is a ride height kit that raises the car by about 1cm. No we all normally talk about lowering cars not raising them, but for UK roads they have seen damage easily inflicted on the carbon undertray and nose which is far from cheap to sort out, so there is a kit to raise it. Not simple though as it means changing all of the pushrods that actuate the shock units, about £10K all in but well worth it for road use I was told.
Finally he said watch the wheels on kerbs as they are very soft and cannot be refurbed with anything but the lightest damage and are seriuously expensive to replace, having picked up a rear wheel in the work shop they are as frightenly light as they are expensive.
But having had a drive I'm definately going to have to own one at some point.

I went to drive one on Saturday, just amazing!!
The ride height concerns me greatly although i did drive a mixture of M, A & B roads plus some bumpy country roads....it was a little unstable but then my 4S was never the best on the lumpy stuff!?
The engine note is just amazing....however it does concern my about clutch and the height + i'll be on my own after without warranty after June next year !!
I'm used to loosing a fortune..eg Gallardo !...Robin, the chap @ the Porsche Garage..reckons i'll do 40-50k in 12 months...but as S George states " your long time dead "
& i've persuaded myself that he's correct.
The LHD was an experience....Robin suggested thats just part of the deal...as i haven't got much choice i can over come that!

I'm 95% there...but I've never bought anything used before...i can't stretch to a new one but bar the ride height the clutch is my one fear.
The Gallaro is awesome...but this is on another level.

You can't buy the Porsche extended warranty for it? Surely not?

Whats insurance like? I was wondering if the industry had cottoned on to repair costs of that tub etc yet.

Honestly - unless you're very mechanically unsympathetic the clutch is not an issue. The only time the clutch could be an issue is moving off or parking - and there's an easy rule ... don't touch the throttle until the car is moving and the clutch is fully released - it saves expense, and looking like a t

I have been looking at buying a carrera gt also, still resisting buying one at the moment, not into losing loads of money
There is a clutch mod available , a friend of mine has one ,when he gave the car some stick the clutch slipped !occasionally between 6 and 8 thousand rpm.
Ride height mod can be done for less, after warranty, we have a 962 here with a mod ,flick a switch car rises 20mm,but can then lowered back to its normal height.
There is near 45 carrera gts for sale at the moment that i can find, lots not selling. Champion in Florida has 3new cars in there show room.
Missed 2 cars, now sold, one for £200k with 4k miles.
In the trade they are looking to buy cars beginning with a 1,so beware of a large loss.
One in Greece for sale 300k Euros, at least 10 in Germany and so on.
There will be new cars available for less than 220 soon, offered a brand new one the other day ,uk car for 250.Only thing wrong with it, the brown leather interior.
Good luck buying one, I would wait and get a 05 or 06 model with full warranty, at a good price.

nervous and i are not in a position to dream about buying a CGT, let alone actually make it happen, but we're more than happy to drool over pictures of the car you're buying (because it sounds like you've made your mind up).
For me, i agree with you, "you only live once", that's why i bought my dream car (a 993tt). Your dream car is just a little more expensive
You know of course that if you do buy this CGT we will want you to go away for the weekend and then come back and tell us EVERY DETAIL, just like that first girl you dated in high school...

Insurance isn't much more than lambo(2.5k), 4k, i paid 10k in my first year with the Gallardo...so looks failry reasonable in my twisted abused car obsessive way.
With ref to the price, its on for 275, i think its worth circa 250 or less ?
Don't know where that chap has found 50 though, i can only find 4 others available in the UK @ the moment for sale.
Apparently GT's fall outside of the Porsche approved scheme, Robin is comming back to me today with further info on break down & recovery + extened warranty issues if available?

do you mind terribly if i ask what you do for a living? seriously, im absolutley staggered that such an outlay is possible for anyone. dont get me wrong, im happy for you. im just not happy with you
To throw a cat amongst the pigeons, if you are going to spend such levels of cash, have you thought about the uber 911 turbos? Such as the RUF R turbo, Techart GT Street, etc. Of course they are not as stylish or have the same kudos as the C GT, but will be dynamically superior.
