I just bought a set of fabspeed muffler bypass pipes - will be fitting them on saturday, so will let you know how they sound - should improve torque/bhp but very very loud - intend to swap them in/out for special occasions (apparently only takes 30 mins if you know what you are doing)
cool, let me know
what exatly are they , new tail pipes or does it get rid of the cats too? i am confused between this and the so called 100 cell cat, is that in addition
what was the cost? as if you say it sounds amazing, i will do it too! what does the quality look like, the web site looks v high quality
thanks again

They are called GT3 Cup muffler bypass pipes - $550 + postage (approx $120) + customs/vat (I only got stung for £22 by some huge mistake by the delivery co).
Quality is excellent they will look superb when fitted. They fit after the catalyst, you simply remove the silencers - so will be VERY loud, but a proper cup car sound. Well, I say simply, I had a go today and the old rusted bolts on the existing fittings sheared so will take it to someone to complete the job next week, so will be the end of the week before it is done.

don't worry about it dan - I'm (un)comfortable with my personal ratio of tax in vs money out that I can defend my position in the UK with anyone - I don't like bliar as much as the next essex boy
IMHO its an individual problem rather than national - and we are blessed with a large proportion of dole bludging scum up here.....but it does mean that GT3s are as rare as rocking horse sh1t, and we do have THE best roads in the world, which leads to a lot of fun behind the wheel (after all the YTS boys are all driving 1.1 corsas which provide overtaking "sport"
get yersel up here next summer and drive these roads, you'll find the countryside (if not the scumbags) worth paying for

Too right. Its partly jealousy of that stunning countryside and empty tarmac! The SE is so depressing although my overtakings getting better and I have PLENTY of game

Design 911 also sell them.
From the looks of things they're basically an empty pipe direct from the Cat outlet and into a tailpipe. No silencer box.
I had Fabspeed supercups (same concept, but a J-pipe from the cat outlet into a tailpipe so the pipe was a foot or so longer, not that it'd make much difference) on my otherwise standard (at the time) 993.
They were insanely loud and sounded utterly divine when driving the car hard - the 'just like a race car' comparison is clichéd but appropriate with these pipes.
Given that the GT3 has a more powerful engine (100 bhp more flow!) and a significantly higher rev limit, I'd expect the Supercups to be even louder than my relatively limp 993.
They will sound intoxicatingly beautiful, but I'd say no chance in hell of passing track day regs unless you are *very* good mates with the organisers - and probably not even then on most southern circuits.
Mine were supplied with bolt-in turndown pipes to direct the noise onto the road (Fabspeed called them 'viper fangs' or something
) however I don't reckon they'd make enough difference for a 98dB trackday limit.
May be worth checking whether Fabspeed supply the GT3 supercups with turndowns - if so, then the tailpipes will be drilled with bolt holes to secure them. These holes can then perhaps safely be used for additional Supertrapp-type silencers which some trackday organisers rent out for the noisy ones
Best of both worlds - drown out TVRs and Termignoni'd Dukes on the road, but bolt on supertrapps to comply to trackday regs. Given that the supercups replace the silencer boxes completely, I'd be impressed if you could swap back the boxes, straps and all, in 30 mins!
As to quality, I can confirm that Fabspeed's stainless steel and their welding is top notch. Was very impressed with the construction of mine.

been offered a gemballa sports gt3 muffler plus cargraphics 100 cats for the car, probably very good price? any advice well welcome, my main focus is improving the sound, i have listened to a few sites ( mainly slightly dodgy u.s ones ) and the fabspeed pipes seem to sound much better, but this offer would be cheaper..........any experience of the above

Unfortunately I don't have a GT3 (though if I had to go water cooled I'd be there like a rocket
) - but for Fabspeed's 993 offerings, the real life sound fitted to the car is a *lot* louder than what you hear in the video. I am sure that this is more a result of the limitations of the recording and digital compression technology than any devious manipulation by Fabspeed. The 993 vid with the supercups and a de-cat had the guys in the car laughing their heads off at the sound! I could be giving misleading comparisons if the GT3 is fundamentally nowhere near the 993 engine (esp. manifolds) but as a general rule, Fabspeed Maxflo give rumbly bass and a muscle-bound throb (more american, at the risk of generalising). I have the Cargraphic medium silencers (i.e. not J-pipe non-silencers) and they give a bit of intent at idle and low revs, but emit a vicious, spiteful higher-pitched bark on full throttle, turning into a lovely complex howl.
The Fabspeed Supercups OTOH have no silencing other than the cats and sound like a TVR Griff 500 with no centre box silencer at idle and low revs, monster ear-melting resonance through 2-3k revs, then pure race-car howl up to the red line, with plenty of snorting and popping on the overrun. They sound awesome and *everyone* will look at you
I loved them, but not quite thick skinned enough to drive the car equivalent of 'come on then you and whose army' everywhere I went. They'd be ideal for that Kings Road Ferrari throttle-blipping meet that happened not so long ago.
Actually, TBH, the Supercups howled like Armageddon was coming on a lowly 272 bhp 993 at 6500 rpm. I'm sure they will be sheer insanity in a 400 bhp 8000 rpm car.
I haven't directly heard the RSRs so best go by VS's description, but they sound like a good half way house and the price is right.
It may not be entirely representative, but you are welcome to hear mine (cargraphics, standard cats but odd induction system) - I'm in Kent, mail me. If you're still interested but too far away, I can try to get a representative audio recording of idle, acceleration from rest, steady throttle, balls-out redlining and coast down. That should provide enough info, though will depend on the quality of my equipment. I'll have a go tomorrow (errrr later today, more like) if I have time.
PS. is there any benefit at all to 100 cell cats unless you make other mods to the engine, specifically fuelling? You should be able to get enough noise leaving the cats alone, unless you have further plans for the car e.g. Manthey...
Hope this helps
cyberface
For my sins I acquired Cyberface’s Supercups from him and would like to back up his thoughts and add one or two more.
Once fitted my wife point blank refused to travel in the car as she thought it was embarrassing, you may view this sort of response as a good thing
It frightened young children
It set most forms of car alarm off
The resonance between 2 and 3k is indeed ear shattering and meant that when returning from Le Mans I sat in the bloody thing with the little foam ear protectors we got given as freebies by Audi! 4 hours of that booming actually made it feel like your brain was melting.
Pointless to even think about track days or a trip to ‘The Ring’
I’ve now put back on the RSR’s which offer a friendlier alternative and yet I still hanker for the pure and total thugery of the Supercups.
Introduce the same sort of thing to a harder revving GT3 and I really don’t think I’m being a big girls blouse in saying it would be pretty damn hard to live with.
All in all pretty much the same as Cyberface but I have heard a 997S with a Tubii on it locally and that sounds fantastic without too much in the way of collateral fallout
