Water in door

Got up this morning to clean car and find that at the bottom of the drivers door near the bose speaker it is soaking wet, did I leave window open a bit? Don't think so because no water marks on inside of door.
Where is water getting in? down the outside of the window into the door? anyone have this? or is it a one off due to the heavy rain laying on it for most of the night?

I'm told, although I haven't actually checked,
that on the underside of the doors,
there are drain holes which sometimes get bunged up with crap.
Water finding its way into the door,

might be a condensation problem some mornings in the carpets too.

Lots of car have the inside of the door as "wet"; i.e. rain water can drain down the outside of the window past the horizontal seal, into the door cavity and then out the bottom of the door. Check to make sure the drain holes in the bottom of teh door are clear.

The most likely cause is the plastic membrane sandwiched between the metal of the door and the interior trim panel. If it's come loose or is damaged it will no longer work as a "shower curtain" and moisture will get to the door panel. No water in the foot wells front or rear? Check under the mats. If you have ECU's and the like under the seats it's double important to make sure you have no leaks.

In all 911 models from year dot the inside of the door shell is wet, the interior door panels have to be protected from water by use of a watertight membrane. In the pre-996 models the speakers protrude through the membrane and are protected by a plastic shroud, I cannot remember if this is the case with the 996.

What I do know is that in the 996 model the membrane is made out of thin sticky foam, my guess is that someone has replaced either the window regulator or door lock recently and not replaced the membrane or fitted it poorly.

This could be it, I had the windows tinted when I bought it.

Yup, the membrane is "glued" in place using the horrid sealant type stuff, the stuff that once it gets on ya fingers, you find yourself having a comedy moment trying to get off!....it should just stick back in place around the outer edge of the door frame. Just ease it off from where it is at the moment, it'll tear if you're too persuasive. Door card then sandwiches it when re-fitted.
