I have 1997 C2S and am about to get rid of stock exhaust mufflers for something with a bit more character. The hooligan in me says go for Fabspeed Supercups but no-one seems to be able to live with them for long. I also have not heard them in the flesh. Does anyone have experience of hearing Supercups vs Maxflos vs RSR? I think I'd like something more than RSR so would the opinion be that Maxflos would be a middle ground between them and the hooligan Supercups?

I've heard Maxflows on a car and they sounded almost the same as RSR's IMHO.
Not sure about Cargraphic/Techart optons though, not heard them.

Supercups are great if you don't have neighbours and like lots of attention everywhere you drive

Thanks for that. More specifically has anyone compared:
1. Maxflo vs Supercup
2. Maxflo vs RSR
If, as you say verysideways, there aint much difference between RSR and Maxflos then the price differential is significant indeed!

Lot of folk say the OPC system is pretty good and it has the advantage of being switchable. Gantspeed have just quoted me approx £1500 to fit.

That's for a 996 though.

Doh! That'll teach me to have a 5 min coffee break with PH and not read the threads properly!!!

My excuse is I'm still too excited to concentrate having only had my 996 for 3 days!

Bear in mind that if you plan to do any track days you may be over the decibel limits. (100 or 105 usually.)

leeme3, congrats! so where are the pics then?

I had RSR's on my 993 C4S that registered at 98Db somewhere - can't remember if it was Donny or Combe.

I can help with about 2/3 of this as although I’ve presently got RSR’s on and bought Cyberface’s’ Supercups I’m afraid the Maxflow’s are not something I’ve had and first hand experience of.

The RSR’s offer a very affordable route to pepping up the decibels and offering a few pops and cracks along the way and are very easy to live with as well. Supercups are however a totally different proposition and are totally and utterly demonic things. I put them on for Le Mans but I really couldn’t handle them on a daily basis as they really do set off car alarms!

In answer, buy both! RSR’s for daily as they are cheep and keep a pair of Supercups in the cupboard for general acts of thuggery. If somebody knows their onions it takes about 45 mins. to change them round

I’m selling my C2S very soon so I will be selling the Supercups separately if you fancy them. It would be nice to know they have gone to the third successive Pistonheader.

Slogging away on a contract without as much time as usual to hang around on PH!

If you were anywhere south of Leicester when I had the Supercups on, you would have heard them. Even if you were asleep in a cave near Lands End in cornwall. Vario-Rob - hope you bring them out to play every so often!!! Will keep an ear out for them

They sounded utterly Fab and it was *only* the mental resonance at 2-3k revs that was unpleasant. Ergo, if the Maxflo pipes also have some resonance, I'd either say forget Fabspeed, or go for the Supercups.

Many of the usual 993 mafia on here give good ratings to the RSRs, so you can't really go wrong with them.

I really like the sound of my Cargraphics - they are lighter on the TVR-style bass and throb, and heavier on the vicious, spiteful rasp and howl at high revs. Along with the supercharger, IMO my engine sounds bloody marvellous but is completely civilized at idle and constant throttle cruising.

Horses for courses as horsey type people say

If I had a garage then I'd probably have kept the Supercups for special occasions, Vario-Rob is right on the money having the alternatives. Ideally, a switchable exhaust that either sounds like the RSR/Cargraphic or full-mentalist-nutball open pipes would be best of all worlds. I believe RUF made a switchable 993 system, price probably commensurate with RUF's reputation. I wish I could afford RUF gear!!!!

Alas no JC, I’ll get a call into the ‘Uber Chester Meister’ establishment tomorrow.

Flirtations with uprated Fiat Stilo’s continue but when it comes down to it I know damn well I just couldn’t be without a bit of Stuttgart’s finest.

Come to think of it you’re going to flog me the GT2 for the £70k price guide in 911 & PW aren’t you?

As they say in the better parts of Suffolk “You’re a good ol’ boy Johnny”

Back on topic, if any would-be 993isti want to know the sound of the devil himself, 993RSR’s GT2 is a s close as it gets this side of a ouija board. Fabspeed I think?

Thanks for the input guys .
vario-rob: if you do decide to sell the Supercups in the near future, or even the slightly further future, please email me. I will either have decided to get the mental pipes earlier and will politely thank you for remembering this thread, or will have had the RSRs on and be looking for something a bit 'mental' for the weekends.
t urbo: sorry if i'm being an ignoramus (relatively new to this Porsche thing) but by Fabspeed 'medium noise' do you mean Maxflos? If anyone out there could give a review of Maxflos, i'd really appreciate it. I think i've got my head around fun:liveability ratios for the RSRs and the Supercups, but the Maxflos are still a bit mysterious to me just now!
I've been looking at rennlist re their users opinions about various exhausts. Having lived in the States for several years in the past, i'm not sure that their ideas of tolerability would necessarily match up with the UK's. I would imagine that in the UK the boundaries may be pushed a bit further before becoming antisocial! If any of you are Stateside, please accept my apologies and feel free to tell me where to get off!
I make no pretence about my reasons for wanting an aftermarket exhaust. My car is pure and has never been tampered with, and I have no intentions of inflicting performance enhancing contamination. I've done this in the past to other, less characterful cars that i've had and the whole driving experience of this 993 is going to provide me with so much fun without having to 'tinker'...except for the exhaust! There is definitely a personality in there which is begging to be released!

Hugo,

I’m having to use my C2S daily at present as the wife decided to alter the shape of her car but as soon as things get back to normal (and she avoids supermarket car parks) mine will be for sale with one of the bigger SOR boys so I can get in touch about the Supercups.

‘Releasing the personality’ when I first bought my car just under four years ago I remember being ever so slightly underwhelmed with the sound of the thing, all a bit Will Young really. Fit the Supercups and Will Young turns into Motorhead live at Hamersmith, you will not believe the difference.

I know this is childish beyond belief but the first ‘Maxed’ Nova that starting buzzing about behind me literally peed itself and went running to hide behind a bush when I blipped the thing. Childish but huge fun

Thanks for previous replies. Does anyone have any opinion on the Fabspeed Maxflos? Are any of you with RSRs, Maxflos, Supercups or Mille Miglias North of the Border? I'm in the Perth area and would like some aural experience of any of these exhaust systems before taking the plunge! Thanks in advance.
Hugh.

Me again - unfortunately no experience of Maxflos but I can assure you that Fabspeed's products are significantly *louder* than the videos they provide on their website.

Since their videos primarily show hard acceleration through the gears, you've got no real way of telling whether they boom and resonate on a constant throttle.

Basically if anyone gives feedback about the Maxflos having *any* resonance at all, then I'd recommend the RSRs or Cargraphics since neither have resonance.

The upside of Fabspeed gear is that the stainless steel is of top quality and the welding is superb - you can feel the quality of the equipment just by looking at them. However, top quality or no, boomy exhaust resonance gets tiring very quickly. Just my opinion of course.

TBH you may as well try a set of RSRs given how cheap they are - if you don't like them then you can always return them and try another brand. I only ended up with Cargraphics because Colin@9m recommended them... and he seems to know his shit.
