Thanks fellas, I've now found all the old threads on t his.
Must say it strikes me as being pretty shabby on the part of Porsche. Here I am about to finally make the leap into Porsche ownership, full of enthusiasm having read about the wonderous engineering, and then I stumble across a known fault on something that would be fine on any other car even a 70's Skoda.

Door check strap's well the guy who got them done under warranty was me !!!!!!
But that was very very very painfull and took about 6 months including porsche scratching, denting and genrally abusing my car.
In hindsite its not worth the agro if you can get it done for £300 per side, having done lots of research on this, this seems very cheap for a proper job including taking off the wings re welding respraying and re fitting.

Does anyone know (VS/phib) if Porsche ever realised the problem and beefed them up from a particular MY.
My car is an early one and I had Porsche fix them, but I`ve had no problem since (although I treat them with kid gloves) So is the replacement part a modified one that was developed and then fitted as standard?

Mine is a 97 and as far as I am aware both the 964 and 993 have the same issue I was told (not sure if its true) that both models have the issue as porsche reduced the number of welds for the check strap from two to one to save money and thats what causes the problem.
I don't think this issue was addressed at any point in the models history.
The main reason that I had mine done by PGB was that their work comes with a 10 year guarantee, so if it goes agian it should I say should be ok !!!!!!
The main concern is that if the straps go then the bottoms of the doors bend out causing even more damage !!!!
Worth checking they have been done as PGB quoted £1200 ish to £2500 !!!!!!!!!!
