The old MAF had got somewhat ragged over the last few weeks and the jalopy was spitting and spluttering when given some beans over 5000rpm so I spent £250 of those wonderful English pounds and the car is transformed.

I suspect the MAF was not 100% right when I got the car in May but going from an SL500 it still seemed quicker and more responsive. But now, well all I can say is 'kin ell.:bounce:it don't 'arf get up and go. Will have to keep an extra eye out for :cop:'s.

I must go for another :driving: and enjoy my new car.

No. Went straight for the new one. Having researched RennTech it appears the MAF is a little problematic so I thought I would jump straight into a new OEM part.

The performance now more than vindicates my decision.

Mass Air Flow sensor. Sits between your airfilter and throttle body and sends correct electrical signals to the ECU (or not in my case)which in turn fuels the car correctly.

Foot to the floor calls for lot's of gas and the MAF tells the ECU to give it. If the ECU doesn't get correct fueling it spits and splutters, in my case, much worse at 5000 rpm up. 2CV's were out accelerating me

More correctly, it measures the volume of air incoming and tells the ECU. The ECU then adjusts the fuel/air mix appropriately. When dirty or failing, the wrong signals get to the ECU which can do nothing but act on them. Telltale signs are dead spots in the rev range and/or an unwillingness to "get up and go" to order.

Messing with air filters and induciton kits can have an adverse affect on their life if more crud gets through to the MAF than the OEM kit allowed.
