TRACK DAY INSURANCE and Goldtrack

MORIS wanted £271 for the day for my 993TT, age 45, no points, no claims
excess ~£2850 and £30k claim limit any advice or pointers.

Any experience with Gold track was looking at next Friday at Silverstone to find some of the limits on my car, bit worried about the up to 50 cars on circuit at the same time without insurance and the potential difference in speeds between myself and VW GT1's and having a 'meeting' though Goldstar say thats only ever happened once.

Goldtrack are very good. Calum and Melindi run it and they are nice people and v professional. Calum likes his Porsches as well, having a 968CS.

As for coming together with you and Mk1 GTis.... only if you don't get out of the way Those blighters are quick and if you are not used to being on track, go out in beginner's group until confident, or when it is quiet if open pit lane. Just keep an eye on your mirrors and only overtake with the 'consent' (normally by indicator or wave) of the other driver. That way contact is avoided nice and easily and there should be no probs whatsoever.

If it's the full GP circuit then there should be plenty of room for everyone. I've only done one day with Goldtrack at Silverstone and whilst the organizers seem very professional I thought the level of courtesy on track was quite poor - overtaking coming out of corners etc. Still very enjoyable, if a little scary at times.

The answer is to get Track Day insurance included in your road policy.

I am with Mannings and get all PCGB days covered FREE OF CHARGE with no horrid excess etc etc.

This does limit me to PCGB days.

Performance Marque offered a policy which, whilst uncompetetively priced, would have allowed me to use ANY ATDO member for track days. The catch was each Track Day cost an extra £75 or so.

For me (since I like PCGB days) it was a no-brainer that saved over £600 in a year on insurance costs.

- I'm only paying £660/year with privilege, the extra for the others was another £4/500 without track coverage, though didnt contact Mannings what sort of price are you talking about!?

- I'm sure a lot of people with VW GT1's will be quicker through the corners as they havent got the same level of risk and will already know the cars limits.

well run, relaxed and serious in the right proportions, also more expensive so attracts a few 'ive got a 996turbo so you cant get past' types but as payoff no chavs and nice cars(apart from me). 50 cars round a track as large as silverstone is fine, if open pit lane just avoid the rush to be 1st out after any stoppages/lunch etc... have fun.

That's a good price. I am paying about £800 - but WITH F.O.C. Track Cover for PCGB days...

Key point - when they ask the value of the car be sure to give them a realistic number (i.e. don't over-inflate). All it does is push up premium costs and I'd be amazed if the Underwriters actually paid out anything other than a bit less than the current value of the car...
