Even better is an air line with gun attachment . Does a better job than water and no rusty discs afterwards. You'll be amazed how useful such a device is around the garage. Also good for blowing up balloons for the kids parties.
When the wet the water on the disc starts to corrode, sticking the pad to the disc...when the disc moves round the abrasive pad clears the corrosion....if you leave the wet disc long enough, it will corrode and pit the surface which could impair braking performance.
With respect to clearing the holes,,,I always use a drill as you know you have gone through the whole width of the disc...Surely if you were to use a let wash or air line, you cannot be sure you have totally cleared all of the debris out....you may just clear the front side, which will reduce cracks,,,but the inner side of the disc may still crack badly if the hole is not clear and cooling as it should, plus you cannot see any potential problems on the inner side quite as easily as the front.....sometimes you cannot do things correctly in half measures.
