993 RS spec differences q

On my search for a 993 RS I've noticed three main differences in spec - comfort, clubsport and lightweight.
I've got a fair idea of what I'm after but each car I come across has been completely different in terms of spec.
Can anyone give me a brief run down on the main differences between the three specs.
Also, at the time of build were all options pretty much available accross the board?

They made Comfort ( just "993 RS" ) spec ones and Clubsport ( "993 RS CS" ) ones. Both are lightweight! They also made Cup cars and a 993 RSR ( not the same as a 993 RS CS, even though the Brits tended to call these CSs RSRs due to snobbery about the word "Clubsport" ). The RSR is a normally aspirated car with bolted-on wheelarch extensions a bit like a 993 GT2, these cars are very rare.

"Comfort" 993 RSs had carpets, the CS did not. The CS had a welded in cage, whereas many but not all comfort cars have bolted in half cages.
Comfort cars could be very comfortable if desired. You could have driver's and passenger airbags, hi-fi, elec windows, aircon. None had sunroofs...so don't buy a car with one....it isn't an RS probably.
CS had wind up windows and no aircon, no hi-fi. It had steel syncro rings in the gear box and a noisy lightweight flywheel. It also had the bigger spoilers front and rear.....the rear being the double decker one like mine. Plenty of comfort cars had the bigger spoiler packs added.
My car is a hybrid of the 2. Originally it was a comfort car (still is really) but the original owner took out the carpet, put a welded in Matter cage, put steel syncro rings in the gearbox, added the lightweight flywheel, it has the CS spoilers (rear one in carbon)......but I still have the elec windows and aircon which is handy in my view. And I have airjacks!

Yes that's right. Only the Brits referred to the 993 RS CS as the RSR. The real RSR was a different thing really, wheel arch extensions and all.
If you are serious about getting one, I seriously suggest you speak to Paul Howells first ("burzel" on this board). He is the 993 RS register secretary and he is expert on these cars. He knows the history on just about every one of them in the UK as well!! Lots of crashed repaired cars.
PS.....just seen your profile...I too had an E30 M3 Sport Evo. Good taste, sir.

Just got back from a foggy,some times wet,but also dry Nurbergring.
Johnny,you are getting there with the info,
There is only one rs,a simple 993rs,with differant specs etc,and then there is the clubsport version of this car.
The 993rs is lightweight,the germans then called any comfort options as comfort spec,ie aircon,radio,e/windows,sport seats rather than the lwt seats.
There is some rs with sunroofs!electric rear wipers!rear seats!,and of course these options can be mighty usefull.
The clubsport is not a rsr,what ever the owners and dealers call them!Some have air con,and even a radio.You have to be carefull to say they do not have ,as porsche would supply pretty well any thing for a price to a special customer.
The rsr version was built for the 97/98 year as a non road legal race car,built for mainly the new gt3 class racing in the usa,japan,australia,etc looks like a gt2 with its arches,but 25mm narrower,and still had the clubsport rear spoiler,it was infact called the 993rsr cup!Same shell as the cup,same cage,etc.350bhp engine on throttle bodies,like the manthey/cargraphic etc conversion,that they copied from the factory.
I will see if i can post some photos of such a car on here.
Out of interest,i have just dropped on to a 993rsr ex factory engine,that was run in on there dyno,ready to be slotted in as a spare engine for the 98 lemans,but never got used,and still in the factory engine container/box.
If buying,be carefull,there are some imposters out there,as well as badly damaged cars,also plenty of nice cars,only to happy to check cars out for you,need the chassis number first though.
