Was that the one filmed on the Isle of Man? Article in GTPP this month about taking a nifty speed yellow 997 there.

Definitely going to be one of my first overseas trips when the 996 finally tips up

Clarkson is such a dinosaur, 40+ years of evolution against two new designs, what do you expect with Porsche’s 911 racing history and progressive improvements. The writing was on the wall IMHO. Both the other two have now bought Porkers!
Bring on the 997TT, or even better a RUF RT12

Clarkson is great entertainment but cannot be consisent in 2 jounalistic efforts on the same day - his cocks buy porcers was very funny but in todays ST Driving he says exactly the opposite

Holding 40 years of evolution and development against the 911 is rich coming from someone who bought a Ford GT, a car with roots firmly in the 1960s...

Unfortunately Clarkson was at his jingoistic worst tonight. Having shown real appreciation for the 996 GT3 RS and what seemed a softening of his old ways in the previous series, today he was back at it with his comments about Germans and French (did you see how uncomfortable Hammond looked at the Poland sat nav comment? ) and refusal to acknowledge the 911 the superior car after it demolished two more expensive cars in the wet.

For all his enthusiasm for quality performance cars, he remains a pompous tw*t.

I remember in a previous series of Top Gear when Clarkson drove a 996tt and said something along the lines of "this is the best car money can buy, full stop", but almost every other time he slates 911's.
But this from a guy who goes from an SL55 to an SLK.... d'oh!

I may have had a sherbet or two this evening but I thought Clarkson, as pompous as his TV persona reflects, was at his jingoistic best (I laughed - I work for a French company who buy from the Germans for use in the UK) - this is a light entertainment programme, aimed at people who want light entertainment (if Hammond looked uncomfortable, it was because it was in the script!). Wouldn't it be boring if everybody agreed with everything all the time anyway?

I find these tests on TG more of a bit of fun than to be taken seriously.
Knew Hammond had ordered a 997, so he was always going to pick that one, May is a Porsche fan too (has a boxster) though I was slightly surprised he didn't pick the Aston, and Clarkson has no time for 911's and I could't see him deciding on a BMW over an Aston any day.
So learned nothing new, ie the Porsche is a great drivers car, the Aston sounds & looks great but is a little underpowered & the M6 is just a techno-barge with a big engine and the M5 is a better bet.

Can't wait for the 997TT.

I agree with the school teacher about the 911 being under stated, it's so true. Not like the footballers/attention seekers cars, TVR, Ferrari etc.

Thing is, he's an entertainer rather than a great journalist. If he was simply a motoring journalist he'd be boring and he wouldn't have such huge viewing figures.

I think TG is a great programme. Sure, they spout cr*p from time to time, but they do it in such an entertaining way.

Anyway, if it wasn't so entertaining, it wouldn't have the viewing figures. Doesn't have the viewing figures, not aired. Not aired... I'd have to read a book on Sunday evenings

He's very good at what he does.

PS. Last night was great - particularly the star ranting he (Clarkson) knows nothing
