Mk2 GT3 brakes are squealing.... help

my front brakes are squealing like little piggy at roasting time.

it seems to go away when I wash them through but comes back and gets worse the more miles I do.

I have done a few searches on here and on the rennlist and it seems that its normal, but its p!ssing me off.

The pads seem to be yellow in colour, not sure if they are stock pads or some sort of racing pad?

Any suggestions before I pop into Hatfield or JZ, don't really want to go and see Jonas and Steve coz they will only end up relieving me of some folding in exchange for a few goodies!

From the description you have given, I would hazard a guess that you are running with Pagid yellow pads. These pads are designed for the track and need to be thoroughly warmed up(almost red hot) before they go quiet. Trouble is you are unlikely to get sufficient heat into them on the road and as such the squeeling will not disappear. Best solution if not going to use car on track is to swap pads for something more squeal friendly such as textar/Porsche OEM. If you decide to swap pads and want to sell the yellows then send me an email and I would be happy to discuss a price.

Its what happens with performance pads if you don't give them nice hard usage. Too much town driving!

In theory you can put copperslip on the back of the pads or fit antisqueal shims, but none are particularly guaranteed.

from what I have read on the rennlist the OEM pads are yellow too!

Call an OPC parts dept and ask them if they can confir, what colour oem pads are. I would be surprised if they were yellow, but the Rennlisters may be correct. Alternatively raise car and remove a set of pads and take a look at the back end to see whats etched onto the backplate of the pads.

If they are standard spec then you probably need to buy a set of anti squeal backing shims from Porsche. These won't work with Pagid yellows though

The OEM pads are yellow, they are made by Pagid and are known as P90, this is a Porsche formula.

This is a different compound to the Pagid Yellows (RS19 / RS29).

They do squeal though, but get beeter after some hard use.

Get the dealer to chamfer the edges of the pads - I had pagid blues and I scared old ladies when I drove through busy towns - took the car to Specialist Cars of Malton and they chamfered the pads - they are fine now.

Just having Pagid Yellows fitted with 350mm Discs and 6 pot calipers - I hope these don't sqeal!!

Sean, I obviously have not been braking hard enough! funny thing is I have been doing speeds and leaving the braking later than would be possible in my 993!!!

I'll have a chat with an OPC, do you reckon they will entertain the work FOC seeing as the car is only one month into my ownership (OPC sourced).

I doubt it.

Why not change pads, the Pagid 4-2-1 is very good. They are a fast road pad.

Hi Sean,

Going to hatfield OPC on tuesday, their man is going to come out on a road test, I told him to bring his ear muffs!

I don't see why they won't at least look at the pads and maybe chamfer them or check the anti squeal shims are in place. Failing that I'll have a chat with Steve and Jonas, need to get the fast road geometry set up anyway.

I might then give you a shout re the pads.

Funnily enough on my way home tonight I performed a series of 2nd gear acceleration followed by me standing on the brake pedal, sufficient enough to get the abs chirping, did it at least 5 times and the squealing disappeared! we'll see how quick it comes back!

The wheels seem to collect an awful lot of brake dust, is this normal?
