Just wondered which track/circuit is you guy's favorite choice?I'm starting to get well into the track day bug!

Spa is far and away the best track I've driven. Imagine it would be a bit lacking in a low powered car as it is fairly quick, but just a great flowing mix of corners and gradients in anything quick.

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread.....

What's the best (UK) track for my first track day in the 996?

I'm thinking I need decent run off areas (Bedford Autodrome?) and as good a surface as possible (which rules out Bruntingthorpe by all accounts)...

Don't really mind whereabouts in the country it is as it's an excuse for a weekend away in the car, but I'm looking to do a couple of track days before taking her to the 'ring...

The Autodrome is a brilliant location. The GT circuit is *long* with plenty of different corners and truly excellent runoff almost everywhere. There is the odd corner where it would be *best* not to fall off but there's plenty where you can try fairly hard happy in the knowledge that needing a bit more room will not see you spinning off into anything hard.

That said - most organisers do not take kindly to overuse of the bits that aren't blacktop for obvious reasons.

Got to agree, no matter what you drive its the ultimate driving experience.

Yep, got to be the Nordschliefe. nothing else like it.

Though Spa, Dijon and the sachsenring also very special.

Agree with Oulton, Donington and Brands etc, but Croft deserves a mention. How about the Jim Clark esses, how fast?

I'd say Spa, although Donington is great, but not long enough possibly (and no, I don't like the extra loop of the GP circuit).

I haven't done enough laps of the Ring to properly enjoy it. When I get a bit more time/money ( like Glenn ) I will go all the time and love the place!

I think Mr. Senna has hit the nail on the head there, with the 'Ring it's difficult to get the experience you pick up with the shorter circuits. I think with a few (lots) more laps I'd begin to enjoy it more. At the moment it just scares me!

Had a few ring trips.....like the circuit,,, not over keen on the inconvenience of intermittent track closures during the day.....Donny is good.......Bedford is great fun,,,but has no heritage or any sense of occasion,,,,
which leads us to the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit...challenging...huge sense of occasion and close to home

brands hatch gp and donnington. nurburgring only 3rd im afaid due to the utter tedium of crossing belgium every other friday night. and i suppose bedford if you feel like behaving like a total hooligan

My current favourit is Cadwell Park, not really a beginners circuit (the Armco and Tyre walls feel a bit close at times!) but its got a great variety of Corners and gradient changes including a blind crest which is taken flat out!

Bedford for me. I can spin off and it's only my ego that gets damaged which is a lot cheaper to repair.

Bedford makes a great training facility, for it's purpose it's fantastic. Just it can be a little boring, it is very hard on your car, much more so than the nurburgring, believe it or not (assuming you stay on the island).

then there is the problem that people do act like hooligans and one can just as easily come off, dig in and turn over, not nice. Plus as one of the MSV circuits it has the most ridiculous noise limitations. Second only to donington on a quiet day.
