Cayman / RS4 on Top gear beats 997 and GT3!

"Anyway, word is the RS4 posted 1:25 on an unfilmed lap at the hands of the stig. The Cayman is also featured on the show and posts 1:26. However I don't know if either were filmed so may not make it onto the Top Gear board - I can see why Porsche wouldn't want the Cayman one to be public!!

Current times for reference are:

Without wishing to shoot the messenger, how exactly would a cayman beat a GT3 RS on trackday rubber around that track?

Then again topgear is hardly the last word in consistant authoritative lap times.

The post says its quicker than a GT3 not GT3 RS.. still seems iffy..

that is a GT3 it has beaten not an RS, the RS does a 1.22.3 if i remmember correctly.

Still, no chance on the GT3. Must have been wet when they tested it. The stupid board says if it is wet or not. but i don't know.

Pus i don't beleive the stig is always the same, so it's not really a fair test

They also bash the laps out pretty quickly rather than pissing around trying to nail a perfect one, and not all drivers will be equally able in different types of cars.

Still, these were apparently 'unfilmed' laps which means anyone can make up what they want!

Totally agree. Look at the time for the 996tt set in the rain a few years ago (1'31" ?).

What a load of crap

NO WAY an RS4 beats Noble/Gallardo/GT3 (of any description!) on track (given equal circumstances).

Maybe they gave it a headstart, or missed out some corners...lol

They've always used a variety of different drivers, even when it was mostly Perry McCarthy. They definitely have several now.

But i agree with DanH there is more than 1 stig.

someone on the aston forum said the stig was ben collins who drives the Embassy racing 911GT car, can anybody check this out?

If all the Stigs are racing drivers, then they should all be able to set times within a second or two of each other on that track.

Anyway, the conditions are different each time - so no point in comparing...

Yep, and within a few seconds of each other is useless as thats the kind of differnces people are comparing. Its such a short track too, that a few seconds is an enormous difference.

As you say conditions are too variable too.

Oh and I think they changed the course layout a bit during the first series. If anyone can remember that far back they used to show datalogger output on the screen too, so you could see how many G's were being pulled etc. As a car nerd I loved that stuff.

The Cayman S is filmed and did ok on the board. quicker than the Boxster S and slower than the 911, in the middle of both.
The Audi sounds absolutely divine but they didnt do a filmed lap or post it on the board at this weeks filming. Very nice car though, not sure if its £50k's worth but bloody good all the same.

Ian Wright is on the show this week and he was a real scream filming his lap....

Should be a good show on sunday.

I believe Perry McCarthy is or was a Stig too, I have heard it was Perry that was involved in the stripped out Jag stunt.
