Congrats! (I think)

What do you mean 'mostly' picking her up and what 'mage' saving are you referring to?

What's the colour/spec/model? Hope it's not a girly cab!!

Argo,
Major saving been going on, buying 993 amongst other things to do in the day.

So what if it is a convertible, or a tiptronic, it's still a 993 and all the better for it: not plastic, not made in Blackpool, does start everytime, doesn't leak water, need I go on?

Good for you Lee, enjoy your day mate and let us know how it goes.

Mega (bit of a typo). it's a 97 C2 in Silver only 25k on clock.18" cups, lowered suspension & cruise control(why???)
I was gonna get a 964 but after doing all the research here and on rennlist and various other ramblings.

Anyway I pick her up this afternoon. So naturally I've taken the afternoon, so we can get to know each other.

So if theres anybody in the Bicester area in fancys meeting up sometime let us know.

I work down the A34 near the Peartree Interchange, so lunchtime pint or something could be possible.

Have fun in the car, sounds lovely.

Cheers

Dom

Definetly up for a meet. Maybe not today as I plan to rack up a few miles, but if you plan a blast in the future let me know.

Have to say, I'm as excited as rabbit on heat. As a kid I was the saddo who had the 3.2 on the wall.

Now what time is it......

Welcome to the joys of the 993, Lee.

Although it is considered sacrilege by many, cruise control was, from what I understand, a rare factory only option. I wanted it retro fitted to mine for Euro jaunts but the response was negative.

Seems like a contradiction in terms in a 911 but imagine relaxing on the strasse past Bremen at 160 with one hand on the wheel and the other clasping a 'Nam sized cellular as you discuss your exposure on futures with Gekko - yowzah!

But seriously, well done - silver suits the 993 C2 very much - last issue of GT Slightly Porsche featured just such a beauty.

A more organic shape I cannot imagine. Bullseye!

The 993 in Silver looks fantastic, I'm sure it goes faster too

Does anyone do track days here?? Thinking of booking one or two for next year.

I'm in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Cool, will meet up for pint soon. Delivery date for roll cage is soon, so the Red Baron (my red 964RS) should soon be ready to fly again.

I also plan on doing a few trackdays and stuff next year, so keep in touch on that as well.

LOL, in an ideal world I will keep the Red Baron as well. Best road sports car I have ever driven IMHO, apart from what I may be getting...

Yeah Dom, DeR tells me you might be getting a Lego car. WTF ?

Seriously Dom, can you drop me a mail please as I'd like to know how far you might be from me - or give me a bell if you still have my number. If you go down the self assembly line you might have an assistant - a sort of Beaker to your Dr Bunsen Honeydew

Nah he is going to make me an offer for my knackered old Golf he has been running about in while 'el Baron is fettled
I knew you couldnt resist it Colbeck ( I told him he reason the heater doesnt work is not that it is knackerd its because it was removed for lightness, thus saving 0.003 grams and I think that is what swayed him)

Well I do have a raft of options sallying forth (sound a bit like DeR there ).

- Toying with the option of an RS2 as a sensible car, but worried about fuel consumption if I have to do a 160 mile (total) a day commute. Maybe a turdo diesel or...

- Iguana's Golf GTi Mk2 which I like a *tremendous* amount, but got beaten by a Fiat Turbo Coupe down a sliproad today. Need to lighten it more. At 180k miles it is still going strong, and has an almost RS like character (no PAS, good grip, quite raw).

- Would love to keep ze Baron but may need cash if I'm made redundant in T -9 days and counting.

- But the pay off would cover... the early beginnings of something pretty plastic and very fantastic. Centre lock mags are the way forward if you ask me

Good choice!

This week mine has been christened the "Dragon Wagon" after sterling service collecting the mother-not-quite-in-law from the airport. She was ....ahem.... "impressed" by its dynamic qualities.

Doesn't SPN have one of these for dedicated track series'?

I remember thrashing (a modest 8 valve) one years ago and it was one of the finest drives in the memory bank.

Another geezer I occassionally chat to reckons these things, correctly set up, could run rings round many otherwise mega performance cars on a track. He cited the instance when he and a mate did the Anglesey circuit in one of these and a Griff (both blokes being racers) and the Volksviggen was just about on the money.

Impressive to a road chump like yours truly!

There's still no excuse for de-Baroning and I'm frankly distraught that Emperor Gregosaurus was so stinting in his remonstrations about such an unthinkable act.

I'll be debriefing him later, the cad!

Hurrah for Golfs!! I make no secret of my love for 'em and indeed even the mildly sorted 8v Dom is driving now is more than capable of taking some scalps on a twisty b road,- ask the 944S2 owner who almost binned his porker and still couldnt get away on my local roads

And if you spend proper money on a Golf there is not a standard supercar that will keep up on track ie Trevor Reeves Mk1 beat 964 & 993RS's, GT3s a 996turbo driven by Tiff Neddel, M3s, Nobles etc etc and a host of other hot chariots round the GT circuit at Bedford for the Autocar challenge last year. Only beaten by an R500 not bad for a humble 20yr old hatchback tht has a 1.8T lump form an audi A4.

Hopefully building a hot 16v mk 2 - i couldnt afford to go the audi engine route- for some road and occasional track frolics next year (if you are intersted in specs I wrote a bit about it in the readers cars forum on another guys Golf gti thread) the only downside is with my usual financial ineptitude I can't afford 2 cars and the old 944 will im 99% sure be going to fund it and to have a few quid left over to afford track day entry fees etc.

So seekers of a sweet early 944 keep ya eyes on the classifieds, and track day porker boys remember to keep an eye in ya mirrors next year for my steath black porker eater
