Locking 996 Turbo
Discussion
Yeah take ure point about insurance. It's actually going to be parked in an indoor garage, which has an internal alarm system. Don't want my alarm going off, and then tripping the alarm off so really need to know how to switch it off.
Yes it does have a tracker, but my insurance company offered no discount so I never paid to have it activated. If it did get nicked I'd rather never get it back to be honest.
I'm trying to find it in the manual but it doesnt seem to list any decent info about it.

Fair enough, but I'd still check that having an active tracker isn't a requirement of the policy rather than a way to obtain a discount...
You can switch off the internal sensors but still lock and alarm the car (if doors are opened). This is so you can leave someone / something (like a dog) in car without setting off the alarm. I think you simply lock using the key (and not the fob).
I'll look in my hand-book this evening but I definately remember something along these lines.

Is there any way to lock a 996 Turbo without activating the alarm system?
I tried locking it just with the key in the lock, but alarm still activated?
I'm sure there will be a way of doing this. The alarm is fully programmable over and above what it describes in the manual. Pop into your local OPC and see what they can do for you. I was quite suprised recently when changing the battery on mine. About 30 seconds after removing the battery (i.e. disconnected) the alarm went off and wouldn't stop until I re-connected the battery (Damm it's loud when your head is in there). It turns out (trial and error) you can only remove the battery with the key in the ignition and switched-ON. Hopefully this will save someone elses eardrums, pardon...

To do this you press the remote button twice rather than once. You need to do it quickly otherwise the second press will simply unlock the car again!

Yes, that's what I was thinking ... this should answer the original question?
Does this alarm the doors as I thought or simply just lock the doors?

Indeed, think thats just the sensors.
Which does help, but would still be nice to know if I can lock it without having the alarm on atall.
If you don't alarm it then your insurance will be invalid (even if you garage is alarmed) unless you have declared to your insurance company that the car will be left unattended over-night without being alarmed...
