My 1998 996 C4 needs a small oil top up. The last service at 37K (5k miles ago) states it had Shell Ultra. I have called "Charles Ivey of London" who serviced it and they said it would have been 5w 40

Should i use the same oil as a top up or is it possible to use something else? Also, can i buy this off the shelf?

Thank you

PEVO

SHell ultra should be fine. Available from any shell garage.

I would not mix oils for a top up (If I remember opieoilman's advice in his very long oil related thread some time ago), and as they have used a widely available oil I'd stick with it for ease and safety sake.

If you can get hold of Opieoilman give him the car details - ie make/model, age, mileage, what you intend to use it for etc and he will recommend a specific oil for you!
