Can they charge a premium for a 997 TT ?

I have a specialist (not a main dealer) offering me summer 05 delivery (ie one of the first uk cars) for a £5k premium....sound fair ??
They are saying the price will be around £95k, so with premium its a £100k car plus a couple of k on options I guess.
They want a £5k deposit now, more when final specced etc (the usual) - that sounds fair, but the £5k premium???

Go to your local OPC and find out when they can get you delivery. Talk to whoever you have to, and i bet you could get a reasonable delivery (maybe 3 months later). Do you want to pay a £5k premium or wait 3 months?
This is exactly what has been happening recently with the Cayman S - as has already been said, Porsche is now in the business of making money, not cars.

Hello people, i think porsche was saying that when the 997's came out but low and behold within 2 months there must have been at least 5 on the porsche website alone, i should know one of them was mine.
As for the turbo iv been on the list for some time and expect to get one of the first but im in no dout that 3 months after i buy it id probably be looking at losing 5k if not more. If i was you(as not sure i even want mine) id wait 3 months and pick up a second hand one. Porsche always say your never get one but people always change there minds with the top end cars. One minute its porsche turbo, next week gallardo.

Try an OPC in Germany. Wuppertal and Stuttgart are monster sized dealers and like selling C16 (UK spec cars) to Brits - deals more likely too as competition and state of the economy in German is far worse than the UK.
I'll agree with that, bought a new Boxster S a few years back from Düsseldorf OPC. Fantastic deal and was less waiting time than UK (it was RHD)
Interesting, thanks all, spot on with the "people change their minds" thing, when you are spending over 100k, the choices are very tempting, great car the 997TT will be, me like many will probably be thinking perhaps Gallardo (next year it gets lots of improvements) or Aston Vanquish or F430 perhaps etc etc - there are lots of lovely cars for that money.

Indeed the competition is tempting - however none of them will have the accessible pace and practicality of a 997TT, especially if it gets the rumoured 500 Bhp. Porsche will just not let their flagship 911 out of the factory unless it can trounce the competition for at least 2 years. I genuinely envy the first customers. With the improvements of the 997 over the 996 I sense a classic in waiting… (not that the predecessors are in any way diminished by my expectations)
