Bought a 993, big smiles

So I finally committed myself and bought a 993 c2 coupe.
And I bought it over the phone without seeing it, following a Peter Morgan inspection. PM is certainly top value for inspections/advice.
I think I picked a good honest straight 911, but I guess only time will tell. After traipsing round all the usual specialist dealer this one popped up on autotrader website as a private sale, in the model/colour I was seeking.
It even came with a private plate - A 993 LAD - not sure it suits me though - wonder what it's worth?
So at last I own the car of my dreams. Will I get time to drive it?
Judging by the mileage non of it's previous 3 owners did!

How did you find Peter Morgan re inspection, was it pretty thorough etc? I had one done on my 944 by another company and wsa far from impressed and was thinking of using Peter when it comes to 993.

Hi Matt,
Peter Morgan was fantastic. I read about someone else using him on this Forum and gave him a call.
He was very friendly, gave me some helpful advice while I was pinning down suitable cars for viewing, and when I found the one I wanted he inspected it within 48 hours of my request. This was very important as I'm sure I would have lost the car to other interested buyers if I had waited longer.
Also, he inspected the car before I had had a chance to see it myself. He then called me immediately with a verbal summary of it's condition which enabled me to agree terms with the seller even before I received Peters written report.
The written report is top notch - very thorough and 9 pages long with lots of pics of areas that he feels worth noting. You get it via e-mail in about 24 hours and then a printed one in the post.
He also gets an HPI report included in the inspection fee of £285 and that costs £40 normally.
For me the inspection fee was well worth the money. Mainly for the peace of mind because you don't want to buy a lemon. But also some of the things in his report I would never have picked up on. In the case of my car, it looks in such good nick that I would probably have paid the asking price - but Peter listed a few minor things which I flagged with the sellor and we agreed the deal at £500 less so the inspection easily 'paid for itself'.
The 993 I've bought has an interesting story I think (although I guess most do). I bought it privately and the sellor has owned it for over 5 years and in that time has only done less than 6,000 miles! In the last twelve months it has only done 300 miles. Now I recognise this is not necessarily a good thing, but the car is in very nice, very original condition. But it does leave you wondering how somebody can own such a great car but use it so little - is it an omen for how often I will drive it?
Anyway i've just booked it into Cambridge Porsche for a major service and to have all the little issues that Peter Morgan spotted sorted out.

The person booking my car in for the work was incredibly helpful and friendly. We'll collect the car sir, do you need a courtesy car sir, leave it with us for a few days sir.
I have no doubt all this comes at a huge price!!!
Anyway, at least I'll have the peace of mind that it's had a good overhaul. And once I get the bill I guess it will be so scary that I'll then be seeking a good independent porsche specialist for the future!!! Anyone know of one near Cambridge?

OPC will have you pants down, 'forget' to do much of the work and charge for things they 'forgot' to fit. In my case, alternator, gearbox oil etc. Ended up reaching agreement before court action and settled.
Do yourself a favour, cancel, take it down to Parr and then you really will be able to sleep at night knowing that what's been done had been done properly.

993 Buyer, I would advise against using Porsche Cambridge for your 993. They will charge you a vast amount of cash and will not be familiar with car's of your age.
I use their ex head technician (20 years with Porsche's) and he's based in Norwich. Looks after my 993GT2 and two other GT2's and is top notch.
