Hi there,

Just bought my new baby, a 1985 944 which I absolutely adore. However, I may just be having a blonde moment, but I can't work out what all the switches do. It's an automatic, and the symbols on the switches below the gear lever have all worn off. I can work out the obvious ones like the rear wiper, and the one to operate the tailgate, gut haven't a clue what the others do.
Also, after about half an hours driving the break pad wear light comes on and stays on. If I stop and start the engine, it disappears again, but then comes on after about half an hour. Does this mean that the pads do need replacing?

Many thanks
Amanda

Cant help you on the specifics, but by the sounds of it, you lack an owners manual, this may help...

www.porsche-club.ru/Tech_info/use/944_manual/944_owners_manual.htm

Its for an 87 model year car (ie later dash)

HTH for now and welcome!

From memory, mine were....Rear wiper, security lock (locks you in for safety - illuminates red when activated),sunroof lift, front/rear speaker balance...

On both my porkers the tailgate release was on the right hand side of the passenger footwell.

With regard to the brakes, I would whip the wheel off and check the pads. It may be the sensor playing up a bit when the lights come on, but best to check the pads.

The fourth turns the additional driving lamps (they only come on with main beam anyway) on and off.

My 1986 944 has 4 switches, the furthest left chooses LH/RH window adjust, the next one does rear wiper, and the next does the sunroof mechanism. The last is a roller switch which apparently does fade front to rear for the stereo, but doesn't work with my aftermarket head unit.

Enjoy the car.. it'll niggle at you, might cost a bit.. but I love it.. Never going back to 'normal' cars now.
