944 Rad Fan

Last week the relay switch for the rad fan locked itself in the on position and drained the battery overnight. The next day I took it to a dealer, who didn't have a replacement switch, but rigged a manual switch into the cabin so that i could turn it on and off..

Trouble is.. that now this doesn't work, the fan wont come on at all.. i've by passed the rigged tempory switch to get the fan to stay on all the time again, but it wont.

Would the relay switch now have locked itself in the 'off' position.. or is it likely that i've burnt out the fan motor.

If so, is the fan motor replaceable, or is it a complete fan unit. How much is this and can i fit it myself?

Any help would be great.

Unlikely to be the motor, hopefully just a fuse ?

A little tip for 944 radiator thermostats (bottom corner of the rad on engine side), if you need one a good old fashioned motor factors will normally carry them in stock as they fit a number of vehicles. They`re all marked with temperature settings so get one that is correct).

I had exactly the same problem. the part is pretty cheap from a main dealer. the hardest bit is getting to the bottom of the radiator to fit it.

can you fit it without draining the rad? i've got the car up on stilts so access is ok... but i think i'm going to get a face full of coolant..
