More from the Essen Motor Show

Including a six-wheeled, 380bhp sports car

There's more here on the Essen Motor Show, following on from last Friday's report.

World premiere: six-wheeled Covini C6S Roadster

This new sports car hails from Italy. It houses a modified Audi V8 engine with 380bhp for a top speed of 187mph. Are the six wheels a gimmick? The company said that they more security, better contact with the road, more comfort and higher braking performance.

Edo 996 GT2 RS

none

This machine is based on a Porsche 996 GT2 and modified by Edo Competition. It's claimed to be the fastest Porsche at the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:15.63 from a 542bhp powerplant. Top speed is 203mph with 62mph coming up from rest in 3.5 seconds, 200kph (125mph) in 9.5 seconds and 200kph (187mph) in 22.5 seconds.

It sits on KW sport suspension with a Brembo braking system including four-piston calipers at the front gripping 380mm discs and four-piston calipers at the rear on 350mm discs. Bodywork consists of a carbon-fibre aerokit with lightweight doors weighing only 5.5Kg instead of the normal 30Kg. Edo wheels (front 10x18, rear 13x18) complete the picture.

Figures, components and weights are all very similar to the above. Price approx. €250,000 (£172,000).

Donkervoort D8 RS

As featured on PistonHeads (see link below), at the moment this is the fastest car round the 'Ring -- 7:14.89 lap time.

Hartge H3 5.0 V10

Based on a BMW 3-Series, this sports a modified engine V10 from the M5 with 550hp and max torque of 383lb-ft at 6,100rpm for a Vmax of 200mph. It includes a Hartge aero kit, sport suspension and braking system including eight-piston calipers at the front and single-piston calipers  at the rear, on 380mm and 336mm discs respectively. Price: starting at €125,000 (£85,700).

Hartge H6 5.1

Based on BMW 650i with 420bhp and max torque of 383lb-ft at 3,600rpm. Top speed is 181mph, and performance is 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds. It comes with a Hartge sport exhaust, front spoiler, sport suspension and braking system including eight-pot calipers at the front and single-piston calipers at the rear. Discs are 380mm front and 345mm rear. Price: €101,169 (£69,440).

Heidl B997

We've also gleaned more details about the Heidl B997, as featured in last week's first report from Essen (see link below).

Heidl Automobiltechnik put a modified engine (3.9-litres, modified crankshaft, etc.) of a 997 Carrera S into the Boxster. More power is possible, but company boss Roland Heidl decided not to offer it because it would make the car too undriveable on the road. The 997 front end and many other parts of this prototype are fabricated from carbon-fibre, so the car weighs only 1,250Kg.

The car on show is not for sale -- it's more a prototype to show what's possible, although the company can modify your Boxster with similar parts. The price of the engine conversion will be around €39,000 (£27,000), while the price of making the front of a Boxster look like a 997 starts at €7,000 (£4,800).

Heidl Automobiltechnik is one of the few companies to transplant the engine of a Carrera (first the 996, now the 997) into the Boxster; the first conversion was performed in 2000.

I'd like to ask Alzen whether he thinks the Edo is the fastest porsche at the ring!

The Donkevort isn't the fastest any longer I don't think - Radical went back with the SR8 and blitzed it.

Is Vmax an official expression? does it mean top speed?

I think the radical blitzed the older record from the Donkervoort earlyer this year, but the Donkervoort got back and get their fastes time at the Ring back again by charpening it...
The Radical is more a racer without a roof and plastic seats! what you call a bit RADICAL.

If it is that time 6:55? then its shurely faster around that track...a little strange then that they still recond that they(donkervoort) still own the record...I was at Essen Motorshow and it was still written their...hmmm
Was it a official record atempt from Radical?

It's 6:55, not sure why Donkevort are still claiming the fastest:

Sport Auto, the German mag that administer the "official" record - decided that the Radical was not road legal in Germany, and so disallowed the "record."

What annoyed me about the EDO claim in that article is that it was not talking about "fastest road legal Porsche" (which I don't believe it is anyway) - it said "fastest Porsche" - which is a joke.

The "fastest Porsche" around the 'ring and the fastest recorded lap time to date is a Porsche 956 driven by Stefan Bellof in 1983 with a lap time of 6:25.80

The Essen motorshow is excellent once you've got past all the Max Power tuners and crowds of spotty chavs dribbling and fighting over modded Opel's (yes, I've seen fights there a few times ).

There's lots of very special machinery on display and it's well worth a visit by any PHer. The D&W stand/stage is often quite "entertaining" too

Yes, there is the reputed practice lap record (6:11 or there abouts) but the lap record shown on the official Nurburgring website is the one I quoted.

All true enough - but I was thinking of "current Porsche" - neither EDO nor Alzen could claim "fastest Porsche ever".
