Hi guys, HELP!!
Discussion
Hi, I have now sold the Chim, and hoping to join the land of porsche ownership, i am not rich so dont have silly money to spend, but i really like the look of the black flat nose on fleabay, does anyone here know the car? what questions should i ask the owner and roughly how much do u think i should pay? also there a couple of nice LHD in the classified for about the 12-13 mark, again, are there cars known?, many thanx in advance for any help, jez

To be honest i feel really bad, but as i gather, he was ragging the arse off it onthe way back from the BTaP and a coolent hose blew, which in turn made the engine over heat, which made the head gasket blow, Ouch!!
Ragging ..
Just Charles blowing the usual bollox he's never ragged anything just talks about it
Jez, if you have a limited budget it is more sensible to stick to the standard cars, ie a LHD 3.2 Carrera coupe or a 964 C2 in LHD. Get one that hasn't been insensitively modified and has been well looked after. PH classifieds, 911&Porsche World classifieds (online at chpublications from memory) and Porsche Post (PCGB mag) are good hunting grounds.
It is like looking for a Ford for 3-4k then saying there is a bright yellow Cossie for sale with a stage 3 conversion within budget, rather than a Mondeo V6 ex company car. Your heart will say Cossie but your head really needs to say Mondeo if you don't know a lot about the marque or its models. Remember that if you are asking what Porsche to buy you really don't know enough... you need to read a lot about these cars on all the forums you can find, drive a few, go to dealers and independents and ask which ones they like and why... internet forums just tend to kick up 'model loyal' responses and polar opinions. Fine for starting the ball rolling or crystallising an already-formed opinion, but there's a lot of homework to do beyond these boundaries.
Anyway, this thread should be a good starting point.

He wasn't ragging, I was with him when it blew on the way to BTaP. Either the water pump gasket failed, or the pump loosened leading to coolant loss. Difficult to diagnose accurately on the side of the M45 though;
