Should I expect an idependant to give a car a pre sale service/MOT as standard before I pick up a car or is this always a point for negotiation.

If they own the car i'd expect it to be prepped, if it's not they should make it clear it has only just come in and they haven't prepped it yet.

If it's a customer car on sale-or-return, then i guess it depends on what the car's owner tells them to do...

No, don`t assume the car will have been serviced, and even if it has been there are services and services. Draining the oil, popping on a new filter and re-filling with oil is a service. So is spending £3,000 going through the car from tip to toe. This is one of the reasons we introduced our strange pricing structure so people know exactly what they are getting for their money.

Just for reference I believe the main dealers only service cars before to a sale if it`s due within 3 months or 3k miles.

With our retail price we fully, and I do mean fully, service cars regardless of when last done. Make sure you discuss with each dealer exactly what is going to be done, who is doing the work and if you will get copy invoices by way of confirmation.
