Good news on early 996 engines - Bargain !!!!

Was at Northways the other day where they've had a bit of a run on fitting a few 996 engines.
Porsche are only charging £6500 for a full replacement engine with virtually all parts included and fitted, there is a couple of parts you need to bolt back on i.e aircon compressor and something else plus of course the transmission and away you go.

Re-manufactured is the term Porsche use. Had a bit of dig around at the OPC when they replaced my engine under warranty.
Apparently they take an old engine, bin everything except the block and rebuild it with new components. The block is still subject to stringent scrutiny.
Quick test run and it's boxed up, complete with all ancilliaries, ready to drop into the next unfortunate owners "blown engined" car.
IIRC the only new (brand new) engines are fited to cars within the manufacturers warranty period...outwith you'll get a re-manufactured engine as above

Er, isn't the RMS problem caused by the block? You could exchange your freshly blown up engine for one with the RMS problem!

Not always. There is a speculation that misalignment between engine and gearbox can cause the RMS to leak.
Also understand that the cranks position relative to the bore of the RMS is critical...Porsche have a "go - no go" gauge for measuring this.
Anyway, it's not only RMS failures that cause engines to fail. I'd suspect that most engine's that are changed are not because of RMS failures...auxilliary drive shaft failures, liner problems etc do
