996 drivers seat

Help......have just bought my first porsche, a 2003 c2. However the drivers seat is causing severe back ache. So far my best option is to replace the seat with a Recaro sport at a cost of £1200. Does anybody know an alternative ?

Find a replacement with lumbar adjustment? Can lumbar adjustment be fitted retrospectively at OPC/Porsche GB or by an upholstery specialist like "Southbound"?

Thanks have talked to southbound the guy there was very helpful and also suggested the recaro option

If its the 'Sports' Type seat, maybe someone might what to swap you for a standard seat (if you find that any more comfortable and obviously swap the pair!)... just a thought a keeps the car looking 'original', perhaps a classified add?

Keep us posted, I know someone seriously contemplating selling a brand new Boxster S after just a month due to backache. He's looking at taking a big hit, so an expensive seat could still save him a lot of money.

This was/is an alternative for me as well not a pleasant thought. Am viewing the seat tommorow to see if it solves my problem

Porsche GB used to have an upholstory specialist working out of the HQ at Reading, that your OPC can contact with a view of altering the padding in the seat. I know this because I considered getting the padding changed in the base of the seat to give more head room. Sorry forgot the guys name, but I assume he is still there.

Lower back pain? You might find you can adjust the seat to correct this depending on what is causing it. DO you know if you are sitting 'correctly' in the car?

On a driving holiday to the US*, I picked up a lumbar cushion www.tempurpedic.com/tempurcmsvb/comfort/transitlu and it's helped immensely. It's not very pretty, but it means my lower back is supported and I can keep my sports seats.

*I've never missed my car as much as I did when driving along Highway One in a Lincoln SUV hire car

Thanks for the comments, am playing around with my seating position to see if this helps and tried a lumbar cushion. I think I need a 'flatter seat' back rather than contoured.

Did you get anywhere with this? I have a Boxster with the standard seats which I really dont like. I bought a 997 with the sports seats and these are excellent. I've been considering new seats or altering them.

I have the same problem with the sports seat - lower back pain. Adjusting the angle of the backrest does help a little, but I have thought about getting the Recaro bucket variety. Would you mind letting us know how you got on when yours arrives?

Which Recaro seat? I've looked at their website and they do a quite a few.

How can you be so sure that the Recaro seat will be better?
