Porsche build quality

Picked the Boxster S (987) last saturday.

Today took it back with gearbox problems. Over the last couple of days it has become harder & harder to engage 1st gear, and today 2nd gear.

Porsche say its a problem they are aware of.

480 miles.

Am I right in thinking Boxsters are made in Finland?

Hopefully it's just bad luck and you'll get it back soon all fixed and problem free. I think the build quality in general has declined in the last few years but only marginally, nothing like the cataclysmic decline of Merc quality.

Only some are made in Finland, not sure of the criteria. if the VIN says S in it then it was made in Stuttgart and F for Finland (dont know the name of the town) Quality on the Finish cars is every bit as good as the Germans I believe.

I've had Stuttgart and Velmet (sp?) cars and they were identical in build quality.

Isn't it "U" for Finland for the plant where they are built, which is apparently called Uusikaupunki, unlikely as it seems.

Don't think that the build quality has declined - if anything it has improved. I've owned a 986S and now own a 987S; both have been faultless. Every manufacturer has the odd car that suffers from problems; it is the way that they are dealt with that is more of concern than the problem itself. My 987S was one of the first and is still a joy to own; 14 months old and 7000 miles.

ours was 2 weeks old, done 500 miles, water drainage pipe became disconected, footwell became water logged and ruined two ECUs that control elecrics.

2 weeks off road while wrong parts were sent back n forth between here and Germany, interior dehumidified / dried out

the dealer didn't seem to know what was happening at any point, on the final delivery of the car back to us, I phoned to say we had'nt recieved the car, only to be told that he thought it had, funny thing is though I knew where his desk was within the showroom and that he was looking straight at our bright yellow car sat within the sea of grey cars, so said to him whilst on the phone ' look straight ahead of you, what do you see' one very embarassed service manager

hope you get your problems sorted quicker than ours was......

Maybe the PDI check forgot to fill up the gearbox with oil

I once test drove a car that had no engine oil in it (after the dealer forgot to refill after draining). It managed a good 5 miles before the dashboard lit up by a Christmas tree and the engine seized!

I hope your gearbox problem is a minor adjustment.

my pal bought a new boxste s couple of months back - he had endless trouble with the gearbox (going from 2nd to 3rd) - they replaced it (gearbox) eventually after much aggro. If it aint working get them to replace it NOW rather than shirking the issue!!!
