Are all main Porsche Dealers rubbish?

Picked up my first porsche (987 S)finally this weekend. Waited 4.5 months for it (is that normal? no 'individual' specifications) the dealer managed to lose the original order and forgot to include the sound system I wanted (got a small amount of compensation after much shouting) and then finally to top it all off was in the showroom with the dealer checking down the car and the ragtop is not the colour on my order form. Lovely car but the amount of aggravation has really put me off. Is this the norm?

can't say that happened to me, but maybe they take the p1ss when your order a boxster?
In all seriousness if you are not happy with the car and it is not to your spec as agreed then you needn't have accepted the car. Seems you ended up with something rather different to what you exptected. You should have said no. You didn't so you can hardly grumble now.
My 911 came to the spec I chose so maybe you were just unlucky.

I really get good service from my OPC and always have. If I fancied an older 911/993 for example I would follow the advice on this forum and buy privately or independent etc and get it maintained outside of the OPC if it has a history that is outside of the OPC already.
As for OPC service prices they have a menu system etc so you do not go into it with your eyes closed.
Having bought a few different brands of vehicle in the past, I have found that the OPC's tend to be pretty good compared to some other manufacturers.

That's good advice and heartening to hear that I was perhaps just a special case - pity as I never wanted to be quite that special.
As a matter of fact I did consider the option of saying no to the car. But on the positive side I have it in writing that the hood will be changed at no cost with a replacement car thrown in whilst the works being done and I can live with the sound system - especially at the price that I needled out of them.

I've only been an owner for a week but my OPC experience was excellent. They answered letters of intent, treated me nicely when I specced car and paid deposit and kept me informed of due date all along. When car arrived it was fully prepared to my expectations and my options were all explained to me by the salesman when I picked up the car 
If anyone wants to know it was OPC Tonbridge 
and a big thank you to Stephen Dennis for his professionalism 
There are plenty of threads on here about unhappy owners who have had poor experiences with OPC's. However, the problems you explain are bordering on the totally incompetent

might get you something on top

Hope you had them resolved to your satisfaction but perhaps a letter to Porsche GB might get you something on top Funnily enough can say that all has been resolved to a manageable level of irritation. I don't take heart from others' discomfort but on this occasion, considering the history of the deal, the look on the dealers face as it drained of blood was priceless when I pointed out that the hood colour on the car wasn't the same as on the order form.

There is too much slagging off of OPCs on here by people who just pile in with no personal experience of them, or who have an agenda (i.e. independents who want to get the business - fair enough I suppose.)
There are also people (like PEVO) who have a had a bl00dy good rogering from OPCs without even the benefit of any lube. We're doing our best to sort that one out by the way.
My own personal experience of OPC East London and OPC Cambridge has been excellent. Minor niggles (including an RMS change
) sorted under warranty, and a minor administrative c0ck up over a warranty renewal dealt with quickly and without fuss, and with good humour..... To be fair they did say that they deal with me in a particular way becuase I treat them with respect and don't think that I am god's gift becuase I have a 911. I have witnessed some shockingly OBNOXIOUS TW@TS shouting the odds at staff, to the extent that if I was servicing their car I would probably "forget" to put oil in it.
Anyway, IMHO this is down to relationships. I know the guys at OPC East London, they know me, and we get on OK. I am prepared to sit a sip coffee and wait for an hour watching the telly to be dealt with, and am always polite and courteous.
Despite the fact that I bought a five year old poverty spec car, they are always a pleasure to deal with, and I will be going back there for my GT3RS next year....
