993 Limited Slip Diff
Discussion
Hi all,
I am having the 350 BHP upgrade fitted my Ninemeister in mid jan, the engine is coming out for the upgrade. As the car is a C2 with std diff should I get a limited slip diff fitted at the same time or wait?
I spend 60% of my time on the track and already have PSS9's RS a/r bars and RS engine mounts / tranny mounts fitted
If yes which one?
Porsche std
Porsche motorsport
Guards
If Guards where is the best place to get one? or should I join the Rennlist group buy at
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php
Otherwise I have been offered a 40K miles 964 RS diff, but feel it may be worn out?
Thanks for your advice

.. and my recommendations were:
90% road use, 10% track = Torsen (Quaiffe style)
Not to be dismissed, very good on the road and excellent for tight courses, hillclimbing and in wet conditions)
50% road, 50% track = Porsche standard Salisbury
As used by myself in my 993RS for the last 5 years to reasonably good effect, only drawback is the limited life of the plate pack.
90% track, 10% road = Porsche or 9m Chro-moly Motorsport
Preferred ramps have 50/80 or 80/80 locking factors, but the actuation of this diff is sudden, hence not recommended for road use.
100% track = 9m externally adjustable motorsport
New diff in development which is adjustable from the outside of the gearbox. This is the ultimate diff, worth around 1 second a lap on track to a professional driver.

Very good recommendations from colin, he is the 993 Daddy - but I still haven't decided what, if any, LSD route I am going to take - its all money, money, money, and a number of overseas (Far east) clients are contesting a number of invoices from my conusltancy business :-( there goes cash flow again! wouldn't life be easier if we didn't have to work and could just play with our Porsches all day long!
The problem is where does the slippery slope stop?
9M cams - already on
9M heads - to come in Jan, can't wait 350BHP yes, yes, yes
9M remap - got one already, will need another remap to go with the new heads
already got the suspension and brakes upgraded, the slope is very steep and very slippery, that will be because it is well greased with money!
Back to the LSD, looking into a Guards 60:40, its either this or the std Porsche LSD (Colin has offerred me one at a very good price - but I am worried by the maintenance requirements of the std LSD, the others are a bit xtreme for me) it all depends on the group buy price on Rennlist, if it is a worthwhile discount then yes - but if I do get a Guards I will still ask Colin to fit it, otherwise I think I will pass on the LSD.

Diesel to get the 350 BHP I am having:
Ninemeister Heads
Already got 9M racing cams and springs
Already got 100 cell cats
Will need a remap
Speak to colin at Ninemeister, he is incredibly knowledgable, helpful and a throughly nice chap, very flexible and good to work with as well when you want your car upgraded, I travel from Cheltenham to Warrington, well worth it - he actually delivers what he promises!

At the moment I am running 306BHP and 278lbft torque, dyno numbers verified on two different dyno's.
The biggest different is the torque - feels awesome both on track and road, really flies, not surprising when you consider the torque is not far off the GT3!
The figure sould be higher, but was held back by:
1) tank of mixed 98/95 RON fuel
2) Cargraphic big bore headers which Colin reckons have dropped the HP back as the decelerate the exit exhaust gas flow.
The engine spec at the moment is:
1995 non varioram with 85K miles
std except for:
9m racing cam
Full cargraphic system, headers, cats and exhaust
live 9m remap,
For the next stage I am:
Replacing the cargraphic headers with std headers, - anyone got any Gillet std headers they would like to swap? -
9m billet heads
remap
make bloody sure it is full of optimax, no penny pinching 95 ron allowed near the car!
Colin is pretty confident that the car will make ~350BHP
I am too, and will update you at the endof Jan / beginning of Feb when it is finished :-)

Thread resurrection!
Searched for "Wavetrac porsche pistonheads" etc but nothing came up specifically for Porsche so thought I would add it here...
I'm prob going to need a new clutch over the winter so might put an LSD in while I'm at it as I believe it's a "while you're there" job.
Quaife (Torsen) diff sounds like a good shout based on what Colin from 9m said above and seem to come it at under £1k. BUT, have also seen the Wavetrac item talked about, seems to have all the functionality of the Quaife PLUS it works when one wheel is unloaded and under braking. Cost of the Wavetrac seems to be about £1200 so would seem like an extra £200 or so well spent.
Soooo, has anyone had any experience with Wavetrac? I'm guessing it may not have been available when this thread was originally started. I'd be interesting if Colin has any feedback on it?
