The classic sound of a 911 flat six

Guys, I'm a dyed in the wool wasserpumper guy, and I just love the howl of a hot inline four cylinder, and I also love the sound of a 4.7 liter SOHC Porsche V8 howling along between 2500 to 5000 RPM where most of the power is.

Cars are like fine wine, you may have your favorite, but you also appreciate the (other) finer things of life too. I am such a guy, as I appreciate the throaty growl of a rear engine 911. Here is a link to a sound byte, I play it now and then to remind me Porsche did build a lot of air cooled motors (too).

www.Fuchs.co.uk used to have a Sound Clip of a 2.8 Carrera RSR starting and running , but it seems to have dissapeared lately.

The Porsche UK website has loads of sound clips ranging from start up to fly by and accelerating away

malton include a revving engine soundclip for each 911 on their website. i'm not sure however whether these are generic model soundbytes or individual to the car on show. perhaps JWB can clarify?

it certainly makes an amusing addition to browsing, and might make one feel more tempted to view an apricot beige 964 with a tan (sorry, chestnut!) interior...

Most Porsches sound way too whiney for my tastes!
Wasserpumper or aircooled. Lots of FEAD whine and mechanical clatter.
The Cayenne V8 is an exception and sounds very refined and throaty though.

My favourite MODERN engine for sound quality potential and light weight construction is the Mercedes 5 litre 3 valve engine- because it has only 1 exhaust valve/cylinder and is in a relatively modest state of tune.
Shame it doesn't sound so nice in its normal application.

Going very well mate, but I'm leaving and emigrating to Germany...so have to rent my place out and sell the Pork
Can't find anything comparably decent in terms of housing in Germany- they all seem to think it's adequate to live in appartments and just have parking places rather than garages :vommit:
