Cigarette lighter problem when using Road Angel 2.

To get my Road Angel to work I have to really push in & hold the lead going into the cigarette lighter. If I let go it cuts the power, so I assume it a problem with the lighter socket & not the lead, as the little green light on the lead is on even when its just plugged in normally (ie with no power going to the RA)
Anyone else had this? Any advice?

i found there are different size and length plugs, short long etc, also different ways that the plug stays i the socket ie 2 metal prongs that are short and 2 metal prongs that are long, i bet if you bought a different plug it would work . i had this with a tyre inflator that needed hoding in the socket but my snooper S5 and navman are fine..hope this helps

Had a similar problem with my 996 when the cigar lighter didn't work at all. Whilst it was in the OPC for another job I asked them to take a look. It turned out to be the holder where the metal strips that hold the lighter in place had bent outwards and were not holding the lighter in properly. It's quite a common fault and they just bent the metal back into place and it worked perfectly.

I didn't see how they did it so can't give any instructions but there was no charge so I suspect it's not that difficult or time consuming.

Are you sure its not the lead?

If the light is on, but no power is getting to the RA it sounds as though the lighter socket is delivering power to the lead - I'm assuming the light is on the plug in bit of the lead btw. When you hold it, you are probably closing a loose connection within the lead.

Have you tried any other devices - eg the compressor to see if the lighter socket will power them OK?

Thanks guys - my initial assumption was that because I put the lead in/out several times a day after a while the socket might become worn or something becomes loose in there & needs attention. Will have a look tonight.

tertius - nope not tried any other, I do have a spare RA lead (springy shorter one that comes with it) & also I can try my air compressor to see if its the lead or the socket.
I really have to push the lead in hard & hold it there for the RA to work, as soon as I let go the RA goes off, but the light on the end of the lead stays on always.
