Unbiased advice for you Martin :D

Made myself very unpopular over christmas by letting my brother and brother in law have a drive in my 964. They both now want a porsche and my sister and sister in law are not amused.

I have my view of course but for the benefit of my big brother could I ask for your views on what he should look for based on the following:

He wants to spend not too much on the purchase say £10-20k
He wants something he can use regularly 2-3 times a week but will probably only do 3-5 k miles a year.
He doesnt want something that will depreciate significantly
He wants an exciting fun car
He can spend £1k per year to service and maintain

View on model and type, LHD/RHD, cab vrs targa vrs Coupe, manual V tiptronic all welcome

His only previous Porsche was a 944 (Lux I think)

Suggestions ?

Get a black/grey/blue/red 3.2 G50 coupe, RHD, with cream/linen/black leather.
87/88/89
Should come in around £15k or so for a good solid clean car which has basically stopped depreciating.

I agree with VS (then I usually do!) This should leave you some cash in case anything breaks!...and gives you peace of mind. I did this when I bought my first Porsche and have never looked back....although I miss every car I've sold!

Agree with VS as well - was using mine every day 12K plus per annum until recently and it never missed a beat.

These are lovely and look the absolute dogs b****x in GP white with black leather.

Possibly a bit agricultural though, would that be a problem? If it is then I would be looking at a 964 and probably LHD to ensure that you had plenty of cash in reserve just in case ...

The car has just had an exhaust fitted when i bought it, and the centre box was banging on the foorpan when you went over a bump, so i drove it up on the ramp to *adjust* the clearances

Spoke to him last night having sent him off reading all sorts of advice and looking at various websites. From knowing nothing he is now looking for a 964 LHD. Thanks for all the input
