928 Towing Eye - odd Q.

Chaps,

Bit of a story behind this, which I won't go into, but does anyone happen to know what the towing eye situation is with a 928? As in, does it have a front towing eye, if so, how does it work? Does it stick out of the front, or is it covered up by a bit of the bumper, or is it a seperate part which you need to screw in?

You may wonder why I don't just go and have a look ... it's for a friend, but I don't what him to know I'm asking, 'cos he may want to know why ... but it's all above board, honest!

I can just picture it vaguely. It was dark when I had to have my old 928 moved onto a flatbed onces many years ago.
Something unscrews or unbolts out of the front I think- could it be inside one of those horizontal slats? I don't think there's a piece of front bumper that comes off to uncover the threaded bit...

Just had a vision, it unscrews with an allen key type of recess, and is deceptive, as with the cover on - it doesn't look like a towing point at all.

I had trouble getting the allen key-type threaded insert off- it was almost seized/rusty.

Our cars have large threaded sockets that are to be used in the event that it is necessary to winch the car up onto a flatbed. I don't know whether all model years use this scheme. In the toolkit you will find a beefy threaded rod with a large elongated "eye" on one end. The rod screws into the socket to provide a sturdy connection to the car's frame. The rear socket is just above the license plate. The front socket is just below the right fog light. The rear socket stays open, but the front socket has an aluminum plug in it to keep out road dirt. There is a funny shaped tool (looks like: ___----___) in the kit with a 6mm hex (Allen) tip that is used to remove the plug (also does manual fore/aft adjustment of the power seats.) I found this all quite interesting to learn because my owners manual (1987 Canadian) omits these details.

Towing eye is housed behind the rear valence at the back of the car rear compartment, along with other tools of the trade. It screws into a receptacle at the front of the car. You should get yourself an owners manual, they're available!

I don't own one ... and don't intend to buy one ... but I am organising a track day as a surprise 50th birthday present for a friend who does own one, and one of the stipulations of the booking is that the cars have the facility to be towed off the track in the event of problems. So, I need to know enough to either discreetly insepct the car, or ask, without giving the game away ...
