Might be a long shot - but can anyone tell me how the manual sunroof in a 924 work i.e. how does it tilt?

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to convert my electric 944 sunroof to a manual version - have bought some used 924 s/r clips but can't figure out how to make the roof stay up in the tilted position.

It may be the case that it only ever lifted out - but the check strap would indicate that tilting should be possible.

many thanks,

A long time since I had a 924, but from memory don't you just undo the rear catches, lift up the roof and turn the catches round to use them as props in the drain gulley?

How much weight does this save, and where do you get the clips from?

Thanks 9M - will give it a go when I have a bit of time.

Bought them off ebay for a fiver or so. In terms of weight you can remove the electric motor & mechanism - a kilo or two? For me this is marginal given the number of pies scoffed, however it's an item less to go wrong and I've replaced stripped gears more than once & can cope without using the button to open the roof.

Would be really interesting to replace the "lift-out" panel with some Carbon Fibre. I lifted this out and was amazed at the weight..so high up above the CofG this can't do good things for the handling...

Yep that would be a good idea.

I wish I could bond a light alternative in so I could reduce weight.

It would also have the benefit of being able to removingthe stupid clips that hit my helmet on trackdays!

I've seen 944/968 racers with the std sunroof bonded in - however all the trim is removed first - which does account for a fair amount of weight of the roof panel. I think there is an american co. that can supply caron fibre panel to replace the roof.
