QUESTION: 944 Engine Power Loss
Discussion
My 944 Turbo Cab has been running without so much of a hint of a problem for the last few months. I have had it completely looked at, and any outstanding work taken care of by specialists.
However of late a small issue has raised its ugly head a couple of times.
When driving the car, there is a sudden power loss. I pull the clutch in and jab the accelrator a few times and there is next to no response, or a very small response.
The exhaust then misfires a couple of times or so. I stop, switch off. I then switch on, put the car into nuetral and rev it untill it returns to normal running levels.
Can any tell me what this might be?
I remember an old motorcycle of mine doing this. That is when the carbs needed to be cleaned... or do the sparks need some work do you think?
I had the specialists take a proper look at the car before and they said it was in perfect condition.
This problem seems to be rear its head after a lot of driving in traffic. Though, truth be told it did this when i started it in the morning after being off all night yesterday. First time my car has not started perfectky with the first turn of the key!
Help appreciated as always!

Two places to start, DME relay - I've never had one go so can't be too sure of the exact symptoms but yours sound quite like those I have heard described by others and the 944 is notorius for it. The second is the air flow meter (assuming it has one). The one on my 964 went and the symptoms were exactly as you describe.
If the power loss has been more slight I might have suggested the vacuum lines but it sounds more profound so likely to be somethinng a bit more fundamental.
