Just wondered because I seem to remember a few months ago that some of those on the list for the 997 gt3/rs were threatening to cancel their order if the new engine was based on the 3.8 instead of the old trustworthy 3.6 ( gt1) block. Have there been any cancellations yet ?

Maybe the 3.8 IS based on the 3.6 GT1 block, just bored out another 200cc

I'm certainly thinking about cancelling based on what I've seen and heard thus far. Then to add insult to injury, my OPC rings up and tells me that the salesmen handling my order has left and they cannot find the paperwork, but if I send the details through again they will honour it. Maybe the tea-leaves are trying to tell me something..

What is the probability that Porsche would use the less-good block, which would then have to be the basis for racing homologation?
Zero.
The "GT1" block can be expanded to 3.9 if necessary, so I shouldn't worry about its limitations.

I lodged an "expression of interest" for a GT3 over a year ago (they wouldn't take an order), but haven't heard anything since. Am I to take it from this thread that Porsche are now contacting people who placed "orders" for the new GT3 to confirm the orders?
Would love to know so I can harass my local OPC.
Though I must say I'm not too impressed with the look of the front end - very overfussy, unless this is a last-minute disguise.

I was just contacted because they were sorting out their sales admin files, otherwise no call for alarm just yet. I may just decide to delay my build slot until details are clearer and perhaps I have the opportunity to drive one.

I doubt it as its already available as the aerokit option for 997's, I totally agree though, very fussy, I'll keep my Mk2 thanks.

Gary on the Titanic forum has it on very good authority (seems to know someone who ought to know...) that the GT3 engine will be based on the GT1 block.

Seems that Porsche will not/cannot use the "less good" block for a hardcore race car. I guess, if they could have they would have by now and saved a fortune by not sticking expensive engines into the GT3/turbo cars....

My 0.02

Cheers

Ajit.

PS - fussy or not, that new GT3 in blood orange would look the dogs danglies..

Does anyone know when Porsche starts delivering the new GT3 (LHD included)?
