Uneven Tyre Wear / Geometry Check

My rear tyres are wearing much quicker on the inside than the outside so I'm thinking about getting my geometry checked. Do I need to go to an OPC or can some recommend an alternative in Kent/Essex/E.Surrey/SE.London? Can I get just the back done or do I need to do all 4 wheels?

so as per my post today, geometry can be done by an indie. do they need reams of specialist kit or is it pretty straightforward?

I think alot of independents have alignment kit now. I know GT One in Chertsey does becsuase they've done mine and given me the printouts of the settings and they're quite a small outfit.

By all means get the geometry checked, but the inside wearing out faster than the outside is normal for standard factory geometry set up.

Cheers guys. Any idea how much an independant will charge. Can they do the rear only?

Unless it is really pronounced I wouldn't bother. All factory set ups have negative camber so this is a common issue. The trick is that it is very difficult to spot unless you actually crawl underneath the rear end and check the inner rim of the tyres. Mine had come down to the tyre thread when I first noticed so despite the fact that they were road legal seen from the outside they were lifethreatening at closer inspection. I had the camber checked but was told that this was standard setting. Save the 250 quid towards some new tyres instead.

The difference that I have between the inside and the outside is about 1.5mm. How many mm difference between them would suggest a geometry problem?

This is in my exprience not unusual. But before you take any measures to have the geometry checked/adjusted why don't you show the tyrewear to your OPC or specialist and have them comment.

Hi Barry, I took my car down to PARR today to get them to double check the geometry set up (I've recently had Pss9's installed).
The car felt good before I went there but it didn't want to turn left quite as well as to the right when on track.
Anyway, full corner weighting and realignment later (and wallet some £400 lighter) the car now feels so alive and sensitive to steering inputs that it can almost be driven psychically.
Hoping to have an even better track day this Saturday!
