996TT battery charging advice...

Just want to have a grumble really - I have a 1 year old Bosch Silver battery of higher ampere than required fitted to my 996TT and after the car was parked up for 19 days the battery was flat as a pancake this morning. Irritating to say the least.

'scuse my massive car ignorance, but I can't run power out the car so can I charge up a spare battery and jump start the one fitted to the car without disconnecting the fitted one ? I really don't want to disconnect the existing battery and then reset all the BOSE / Nav codes ?

Any advice on chargers too ?

Halford to a charging station where you charge it up inside, then it has enough power to jump the car, you can also plug things into it like kettles or whatever.

19 days, that ages! Mine doesnt last much more than 10.

I also dont have power in my garage, but I run 2 extensions cables and charge it up with a halfords battery charger every week.

At first I just took it for a drive every week, but when the batterys are that low the 911 doesnt do a great job getting them back to full.

No problem jumpstarting with a spare battery. Connect up the positive terminals, then connect the negative terminal of the donor battery, preferably to a lump of metal on the engine rather than to the negative terminal of the fitted battery. With decent jump leads this should do the trick. You'll then HAVE to take the car for a nice long blat to put some juice back in the battery - hardship huh?

Chargers - no particular opinion, but if you haven't got mains power near where the car is normally parked then one of these battery conditioner trickle chargers will be of no use to you. I don't know whether the solar cell trickle chargers do very much during the winter months, but might be worth a try as a long term solution. To properly charge with an overnight charger you'll have to disconnect the battery from the car to protect the electronic components, so all your settings will go to cock.

I've got a battery conditioner from the OPC. About £50, plugs into the cigarette lighter. Normally use it if I know I'm not going to be using the car in the next 8/9 days. Do you have a garage with electricity?

Thanks Guys, Halfords had 10 of everything except the "Power pack 200" the sods ! So naturally I left with a bicycle and will use neighbours Porker 964 to jump start it tonight !
