996 question, specifically targa

Hi, my mum is looking into replacing her clk320, and after many suggestions (fussy woman), shes pretty much settled on a 996, after looking into her price range of around £60k, we've found a nice targa with plenty of kit. As my family have no experience with Porsche's at all, is the handling quite safe on a 2wd 996? Im not talking about feel or predictability of the handling, I mean how easy/hard is it to get into a tangle?

My wife drives a 2002 996 targa and a lexus 4 x 4. She hops out of one into the other and feels perfectly safe in either. Its a quick car certainly but easy to drive and very sure on the road.

Much appreciated, Im thinking that the rear engine and drive combination will give it a decent balance.
