Well, given that my car hasn't even arrived yet, I'm not qualified to comment, but I'm not going to let that stop me.....
Of the options that I've chosen, I'd put them into 3 categories:
1) You'd be mad not to add this.........
Sat Nav
2) Nice to have, but not essential......
Cruise control
Tyre-prssure monitor
Adaptive sports seast
Heated seats
Sports exhaust
Sports shifter
Fatter sports steering wheel
3) What sort of idiot would waste money on this......
Parking sensors
Rain sensors / autolights

The sort of idiot who once reversed his Porsche into a lamp post because he didn't "see" it, that's what!
I suppose it depends how you use the car, but parking sensors would be one of the first things on my option list (especially as my wife drives my car, and her daily driver has them too!).
Tne modern ones are barely noticeable anyway, unlike the carbuncles on the orginal 996/boxster.
Why do you see SatNav as essential? Isn't it just a way of spending £1800 on £300 worth of electronics, which will then be worth b*gger all on re-sale?
I, for one, won't buy a used car with SatNav. After 2 years in my possession the car may well be 5 or 6 years old, and I will probably end up with an unsupported system.

There's an article in this month's GT Purely Porsche about which options to spec. Canvassing the dealers seemed to indicate that satnav (or the lack of it) would affect residuals, despite the shortcomings/limitations of a built-in system. I guess on a 12-24 month old car, the satnav will still be supported. I think it remains to be seen whether anyone's likely to pay £1800 less for a car without satnav...
19" wheels on the 997S seemed to be a winner, as did the Bose upgrade. They said not to bother with sports/adaptive seats or the electric seat upgrade.

19" are standard on the 'S'
From what I've heard, the addition of Sat Nav makes the car much more saleable, but you are correct that it won't necessarily add a huge amount at re-sale time.....

Ah, apologies, I'm working from memory. Maybe it's the Sport Design wheels they were talking about. Crested wheel centres were recommended too I think.

Weird sense of priorities there - a warm bum is more important than not smacking the car into something when parking? And integrated Satnav is more important than anything else when a £5.99 mapbook or £300 system that can be swapped from car to car makes more financial sense?

I'm sure we all have our own preferences for options. After reading a number of posts about resale etc on various Porsche forums, I think my summary above still stands.
I do agree that in value for money terms the priorities might be different.

Just bear in mind that you will recoup 0%-15% of the cost of the extras, when you come to sell.
With that in mind, spec the car with what you want/will enjoy, not what you think will make it more saleable in x years time.
As an example, I would not be bothered about Sat Nav in the slightest, but would not consider changing to a car that didn't have PSE and Bose.
Parking sensors go with crested seats, in my book. If you need them, you are buying the wrong car

Funny, no-one seems to be talking about the sports chrono anymore. I didn't spec it because I couldn't get over the sub-70's Maserati tackiness of the clock on the dash, but is no-one going to defend it? Or is it that the people who do have it just don't use it?
Like most people I suppose, I only bought the SatNav because I was thinking about residuals. I've seen too much teeth sucking at trade-in time. Saying that, I'd be lost without it now...

My view is that its only necessary if you regularly track your car (and even then, opinion is divided as to its value), and looks unattractive. Also, if you get the Porsche Sports exhaust, you don't get the on/off button on the dash, meaning that in order to benefit from the PSE noise, you also need to be in Sports mode, which may not what you'd choose, particularly if conditions are poor

Agree, which is why a number of my specified options are 'nice to haves' and will increase my enjoyment of the car, rather than what I'd cosider 'essential options'.
Same with colour - choose the colour you want to be looking at for the next 3 years...
